Tons of fuel for the soul on Inishtrahull
The cliffs to the back of Rathlin are superb - world class birdy territory.

If there's a lighthouse, there tends to be a landing place. If you find the lighthouse on Google satellite images, you can often see a track to the landing place.
Obviously there are exceptions to the rule.
Doing the planning is half, well at least part, of the fun.
The little quay at Inishtrahull looks fantastic and it's only about 1/2 mile to the lighthouse.
I've got no local knowledge but your trip has piqued my interest. Looking at the chart, if you went to Rathlin Island before heading across to Port Ellen, it would keep you clear of the overfalls that are to the south west of Port Ellen.
It sounds like Willk is your man for local knowledge though.
Cool trip.

A. Portmore - NE end Inishtrahull. 1 of 2 constructed landing places.
B. Malin Village Post Office and fuel pumps, quay approx 250m NW.
FYI You'll be confusing the two Malins. We just do it to keep the Sassanagh on their toes... ;-)

Definately have it all in tanks. Refuelling at sea is tricky.
I was lucky in having a 100 litre tank under the console of my 5.4

From this months RYA members brief, it looks as though the RYA are moving their position on this a bit.

Have they? I just read it and it echos my comment exactly:

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a huge fan of "pyros" but IMO, for now at least, they still are compulsory equipment for many boaters and will play a role for some time to come. Eventually they will be relegated to the same place as the burning tar barrel but I think it is disingenuous to dismiss them.
