Nah - Matt will easily appease his conscience by selling it as "one careful owner".
He's just not going to mention that he wasn't the "one". The careful one was a previous owner.

Great weekend thanks to Avocet, LongJohn and PeterM for braving the weather over from Poole, Whisper for organising and Biffer kindly allowing us to stay at his very nice pad in Cowes.
Also a thanks to Matt for providing "some" of the entertainment
I have had a quick review of my Gopro footage I did capture the moment Matt abandoned ship but had to review 2 inches away from the screen but I can just make out that Matt on this occasion appears to be telling the truth!! There was no crazy air moment before the boat turned over. He was in a following sea and wasn't moving when the port side rolled over to starboard. It is very difficult to tell being a white boat in white water so far away but freeze framing i can just work it out. When I publish it you wont see it unfortunately. However I did get a few good clips. I will start work on it later.
When are we doing AJ's Stag Do! Part Trois?

Great footage Pete and glad everyone made it home safe.
Just a thought, when Flipper happened, did anyone put out a Pan call to the Coastguard? Whilst there was 2 other RIBs present, the conditions were not great and Matt going under the boat, it could have turned nasty very quickly.

Good question ....and one that was discussed.
We could see Matt swimming actively as we headed towards him..maybe 20 seconds after he flipped.
No 1 priority was to get him, which considering Avocet and I were the only two man boat and biggest we did, David on helm me looking at Matt. He got in..clearly not hurt. But we took a minute to make sure before we even thought about the boat, then made the plan and did it.
If Matt was not 100% ok it would have been pan, if not mayday.
As the footage shows..he was totally fine, and then given this and the training and experience of everyone we just got on and sorted it....but it's a long way up the Solent towing....
funniest bit was Matt getting electric shocks as the battery was submerged, he was stood in the water inside the boat, then when he reached to sort the tow he completed the circuit to the sea! Ow ow ow...it's all tingly!!!!
(Noticed you working Sat off sandbanks as we left Poole :-))

Briiliant! It was only a matter of time.
I suppose it'll need to be a limb off in the prop next time to top that.

And remember every MOB is a Mayday according to the RYA & its instructor base - I remember arguing this long and hard with my PB2 instructor getting the response "there's always the risk of secondary drowning". Following that logic it would be a Mayday every time one of the pups fell off the ringo!
I think with 2 other boats & experienced crews so close and such a well executed recovery this did not need a pan-pan/ mayday, but official line might be different . I'm sure there will be an argument that a mayday should have been made, then stood down as best practice.
It was a good piece of seamanship to recover Flipper so quickly and right the SR. Nice to watch

You reckon?!
I don't think that the CG, RNLI, RN or any other professional maritime body would see it that way.
There's a difference between fun, adventure and measured thrill seeking. That was irresponsible, wreckless and just dumb.

I meant in relation to the ribbing he took after rather than the event.
