Has to be carted by jerry can from the nearby petrol station. Sadly no longer duty free. The road tax is included in the fuel price these days.

There's a small pontoon intended only for smaller boats (up to 4m if I remember correctly)at the end of the outer harbour where (with the prior consent of the harbourmaster) you can moor temporarily to fill up by cans from the garage that's about 500m up the hill from the harbour.
If you need more than one jouney, the garage will let you come and go however many times you need if you leave a credit card behind the counter. Several cans, a trolley that can carry them and some means of transferring the petrol to the tank on the boat makes things easier.

Thanks for the info.
Is this feasible or do all you guys have big tanks or diesel?
I've got a 90ltr tank and a 25ltr reserve tank.

I have a 225 litre tank which should give me sufficient to get there and back at moderate cruising speed but without leaving the recommended reserve of one third of a tank. I therefore always fill up before the return journey.

So you will be doing the trip to and fro to the petrol station, right?
Andy

With a little bit of organisation it would be possible to borrow and share a few 25ltr tanks to say get 100 litres to the boat in one go. I'm sure one of the chandlers would ferry some cans in a car if required. I certainly would be happy to help if I make it up (subject to my parent's not needing their car)
If there's water in the inner harbour then you can pull up along side to offload/load for a few mins. You're unlikely to get a stroppy official demanding you move on.

Hi all,
Sorry I have not been around to offer some info to the fuel discussion - been learning how to build big paravanes! (Don't ask)
Mainbrayce now do petrol in cans, currently they are experimenting with reduced duty by claiming the road tax back. At the time of writing this makes their petrol a few ppl cheaper than buying direct from the harbour's petrol station. In any event they will take care of all the fetching and carrying and they have the berth in the inner harbour.
If there are any problems we will be on hand to help move stuff about.
One note about the dinghy pontoon - yes it is sometimes possible to briefly put a boat there for loading but it is generally more relaxed if you use the breakwater slipway where you can tie alongside at all but the lowest tide.

Petrol - Alderney
Hi there, Malthouse is spot on regarding the fuel. Diesel or petrol is easier if you come along the wall at the inner harbour. Due to some issues over the delivery system we are still supplying petrol in a very analogue manner, but as long as we know how much is needed in how many boats then we will do our best to help. The price is a little cheaper than the petrol at the station and we take the sting out of lugging it.
I am just fueling up now for a return trip to Lymington this weekend, should take me 2 hours each way. Its boring but cheaper than fueling in the Hamble or Lymington or Cowes.
If you bring extra cans you can take some more back with you.
Cheers
Rupert

Not sure what type of Ribs coming ; but will work on a speed of 25 knots
from Fairway Buoy . As we will be approaching Bray at low tide ; suggest
you pass leading marks White Cone on Douglas Quay in transit line
with Church to avoid submerged part of the Sea Wall to all Rib Owners.
Regards Tiffy
PS will we dine in First and Last , if so may need to book

Do you mean it takes you 2 hrs from Braye - Lymington, or it takes 2hrs to refuel?

In terms of tides for arrival in Braye...
Sat 27th:
HW 1025 5.9m
Slack Water 1300
LW 1700 1.1m
Slack Water 1930
The approach in from the north is good, plenty of scope for tide.
