Dear Julian We are still onboard for this one, if Stephanie doesn't come I will, on my own, or find some company. Do we get on and book our own accom, or do you have any suggestions from previous trips? All the best Martin
PS. Re Dartmouth I might be travelling on my own for this one, Stephanie has a bad back at the mo. I will have to be out of Bembridge Harbour early on Friday so will moor up in Yarmouth till you arrive.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the update.Hope Stephanie gets better soon.
Best to book your own accomodation for the Channel Islands as the last 2-3 times I have stayed there I have slept on the boat so I am not familiar with any B & B or Hotels etc. If anyone has any suggestions that would be good.
I'll be outside Yarmouth at 10.30 so I will see you on Friday in the basking sunshine, I hope.
All the best
Julian

Confirming I am still up for it, "Bigbird" Kevin will be crewing, I stayed in a small hotel right next to the Marina at Guernsey with the Rib magazine gang a couple of years ago. I will get details & let you have them.
See you tomorrow.

Channel Islands 2007
Afternoon Guys
Following on from a conversation with the Marina in St Malo there could be a big problem with us getting in. The following day they have a yacht race where a huge percentage of the boats berth the night before. They will not commit to letting us in.
There for we have decided the best plan is to head up the coast some 8 miles to a place called Paimpol. This looks like a lovely town as well and if anyone wants to visit St Malo we can easily arrange to get round for a look around.
Please look for accomodation in Paimpol now rather than St Malo.
Please click here for a link to Paimpol http://www.panoramafactory.net/galle...rt_Panoramique
This is the last change to the event and only done to make our lives easier.
See you next week
Julian

Apologies for butting in to your thread but I saw Paimpol mentioned... I was there about 4 weeks ago and yes it's a lovely town!
You don't say if you've been before, but make sure you time the tides right for the lock (about 2 hrs either side of high tide from memory - check this!) because if you miss it there isn't much water left and you'll have nowhere to go!
I took this picture looking at the lock entrance at low tide... note the keel marks in the mud!
The second picture is looking out to sea down the channel.
It can be a bit of a bun fight at the lock too so prepare lots of fenders!
Any other questions let me know

Channel Islands 2007
Morning All,
Alex thanks for the info on Paimpol, will be looking closely at the tides.
I have also been thinking that I would like to move the start time from 10.30am to 9.30am. Reason being is that it would be nice to have a leisurely lunch / beer and rest in Alderney rather than rushing in and out to get to Jersey. A sill locks St Helier Marina and we need to be in a couple of ours either side of high tide, High Tide is around 4pm. If all went wrong we could berth in the Marina on the starboard side called La Collette, which is accessible at all, tides.
Let me know your thoughts on this and if we all agree we will set off at 9.30am.
Cheers
Julian

Channel Islands 2007
Morning Guys,
Right following on from several conversations with various marina's etc it appears that next weekend is Bastille Day which means its going to be very busy.
Several of you have tried to book accomodation but with no joy. Its now been decided that instead of staying over night in Paimpol we will stay another night in St Helier instead. Most people have hotels booked and can add another night to the stay.
Of course we can go and visit all of these places but at least this way we have a base and most importantly you have a bed for the night.
Right thats it for now, keep you fingers crossed for good weather and see you at 9.30 Thursday morning.
Cheers
Julian

Welcome to Jersey
Would be glad to buy you guys a pint in St Helier Yacht Club - I'd be joining you for the rest of the cruise, but No.4 Baldy is due very imminently.
What time will you be in?
Oops - just noticed you've been and gone - hope it was good!

Hi Tony Thank you for the thought, it was a great cruise, well organised by Julian, complemented with good company. Charles looked after us in Jersey, taking us to Sark and around the Islands. We had a bumpy run on the way out to Aldernay, but flat calm for the return from Guernsey, 3 hrs to Yarmouth, Mike probably did in two and a bit. "Next Time" All the best Martin

Jersey 2007
Morning All,
I will do a full write up over the next few days and we have loads of photos to add as well, It was a fantastic event, rough on the way over but we were very lucky and had broght sunshine for the rest of our stay. The gearbox on our Scorpion blew up as we passed corbiere light house so we had to leave the boat in Guernsey to be fixed. Mike took us back in Hotlemon, St Peters Port to Needles in 1hrt and 45 mins. Not bad eh.
Thanks to everyone who took part and a big thanks to Charles who played a fantastic host as allways.
All the best
Julian
