RIBase
I understand Pete7 is now (de facto) leading this.
And yes, the petrol station is open 0800-1800 hours Mon to Sat and 1000-1200 Sundays.

Time to get a grip gentlemen after 20 pages on this thread of nancying about!

Over organising something like this can make it much more complicated than it needs to be. It might be best if Brian just declares what time he'll be in the pub, and anyone who gets there can buy him a drink.

Given good weather it's a very straightforward crossing - just do it. If you're not happy with the forecast on the day, don't go.

Instead of trying to put a flotilla together, why not get together in twos or threes and all meet up when you get there? This will almost always be more satisfactory than trying to keep a big group together. In the time it takes to assemble a couple of dozen RIBs off Calshott you could be halfway across!

Find someone with a similar size boat and PM them and see what you can arrange . . .

If you're not comfortable doing your first cross channel in your own boat, then why not see if you can crew for someone more experienced?

Fingers crossed for the weather

John

How much is the fuel there? And, how bothered are they about filling up non-regulation fuel cans?

Its a full size petrol station, 200m from the harbour, downhill on the way back to the boats, a shopping trolley could be useful.

Agreed, okay assuming good weather Paul and Kath on Merlin are joining Viv and I on Old Spice. Plan to depart Yarmouth IOW at 10 am (after filling up) on Saturday 16th. Since its not a race we will be looking for a comfortable cruise speed of 20 - 24 knots, with a coffee stop half way.

If its bad weather we are staying in bed.

It would be useful to know who is coming along. Could I ask for a short post, with boat name, colours and size, and numbers on board of those who plan to come along, thanks

Old Spice, Grey & White, 6.5m, 2 crew

Pete & Viv

Berthing at Yarmouth. Is the plan to meet at the mooring buoys just beside the Yarmouth Marina / harbour entrance?

Just Looking
5.85M Ribcraft
Grey / Blue
2 Crew

Steve

p.s. I am also interested in creating some decent video (I have a dogcam H2O bulletcam + DV recorder with DV cassettes) I would like to swap tapes with someone en-route so that we can video each other / ourselves.

pm me if you have a video camera with DV tapes and wish to swap (please don't reply on this thread as we need to capture who is going rather than have a discussion about moviemaking).

Totally agree with this. Small groups seems to work best cross channel.

Hi
I have just had Trevor in from the Mooring restaurant/bar in Alderney.
If you go in there and mention Ribnet i'm sure he will sort you out with a great deal......

Well, after 22 pages on this thread, there are now 33 replies from owners of boats who say they are coming. You can count them if you like.

Be interesting to see how many make it.

Sorry I'm going to have to pull out of this: got a charter booking for that weekend. Hopefully there will be another run later on in the summer - my aim for the summer is to make it to Guernsey!

we did 90 plus miles today and the kids wernt over impressed, i have been told that the next boat trip is to a beach for the day so i dont think we will be able to make the alderney trip, the little ones are only 4 and 6 and find it a bit tough going at times on a long haul!

Alderney cruise

Hi everyone,
Just a note,
Myself & another rib are making the start across on friday 15th in the afternoon/evening at about 3.30>5PM as at the moment the sea state is a lot more settled (like a mirror ) in the evenings & at about 24>26knts we should be there at about 5.30>7.30PM (only 48 nautical miles from portland) then aiming to come back saturday evening same time (farthers day sunday, just to keep the wife & kid's happy ) also gives a better weather window as if sat is crap we can return on sunday.....anyone else interested please PM me. I will be leaving from Portland Sailing Center, Dorset. Secure storage & slip & parking is available to any takers for approx £40 or less (will find out more for anyone interested, again just PM me).
Mike.

Good luck to everyone coming see you there .
