Sort of, in so far as I shall be somewhere in between Jersey and Alderney for most of the day

May well be going up friday afternoon and returning sunday. I thought Saturday was looking a little bit breezy in the afternoon.

Might see you up there then. Is the yacht club normally open on Saturdays?

Pretty certain the clubhouse is open all day (for wc and seating), but the bar normally only opens from 6-8pm. The Divers just up from the Braye Beach Hotel is pretty good or the Moorings a few doors along from that. Send me a text when you arrive and I see what I'm up to. I'll be mostly plumbing in some new rads for my parents so a bit of a working holiday this time.

Sadly Martini didn't make it due to the fog on Saturday, but we had a great trip up on Friday afternoon with near perfect conditions. Spotted a solitary dolphin on the way out of Jersey who surprisingly didn't seem interested in having a play and turned out to be rather camera shy as well . Made Alderney in good time, and decided to have a peek at the Puffins near Burhou, and then went for a mosey out to Les Casquets lighthouse, just for the hell of it.
Our return journey today wasn't quite so inspisiring and I think we were paying for Friday's bliss. A very lumpy sea with alot of spray and a mobile phone that doesn't work now, even though it was in a 'waterproof' pocket. The wind had picked up quite quickly to a F4 gusting 5, and the only positive aspect was that it was side on so that there wasn't too much slamming off the crests. Had to stick to a leisurely 20kts though to avoid being thrown around too much.

I think I had his share of beer though.
Nice photos of the 'ffins, we too saw a single dolphin (Sat) and were surprised that it did not want to play. Grumpy dolphins are unusual.
After the beer had soaked in last night we pondered the idea of a lunch time get together - perhaps in Sark? (no beer obviously on a day trip)

Sounds like a good idea to me. We normally anchor in Dixcart bay and paddle ashore.

Odd that, because we also saw one on our return today, but I didn't fancy stopping to see if it was alone, given the conditions.

If time and tide conspire, it'd be good to go again and actually get ashore and have a proper look.

You will need written permission from Trinity House, or be giving the local maintenance guy a lift to change the bulb.
The Witch suggests we partake of beer et wine and camp on Sark, it seems the thought of 30 sea miles in one day is a bit much for her.

Oh well, will have to make do with an old aerial photo instead. Interesting though, because I'm pretty sure a close family member was dropped off there a few years back to make sure no-one cut the corner during an air race. It could have been the 'harbour official' who took her out there had assumed consent from Trinity. (sadly they went back for her)
Sark sounds fine, though I may have trouble persuading my hobgoblin with the camping bit.

St. Helier Yacht Club have organised a rally to St. Malo on Saturday 19th June to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the evacuation of St. Malo.
http://www.shyc.je/Notice-Board/Evac...y-Information/
If I can get more interested parties I'm planning to join the flotilla at the RV outside St. Malo and follow them in to lock through to Bassin Vaubin at 12.50 bst, rafting up on the Quay St. Louis.
If I cant find a spare berth on someones gin palace then hopefully I'll get a bed for the night inside the walls leaving sunday morning on the 11.30 lock opening.
Plan B is a quick day trip up to Alderney for lunch on saturday if not sunday.
Weather-wise its looking like a fairly promising weekend, anybody got plans? Hope to see you out and about

Don't think I'll be on any cruises this weekend. Just come back from a week of living onboard in Poole, and my maiden channel crossing. I'm still getting used to the floor not moving around under me!

Keith- glad to hear you made it back in one piece although making the crossing in a cabin boat makes the thought of doing it in an open rib far less appealing don't you think?!
Martin- will do
I'm off work all next week, hoping to get plenty of ribbing in so if the weathers favourable I'm sure I'll be popping into the northern isle at some point.

It has certainly helped me confirm my thoughts on the kind of sea state I wouldn't go in by rib. Due to work commitments I actually came back on Condor yesterday as the forecasts were still showing F5-F6 and there's no way we were coming back in that for the sake of waiting a few extra days. . The outbound trip was ok to start with (managed 20kts with tide at one point) but after the shipping lanes we had a strong F4 against tide and we had to drop to 8 or 9 kts for almost 2 hrs. It still amazes me how the sea can throw a 6 ton boat around and slow your progress. By rib it would have been painfully slow and harsh, not something I'd have fancied. The lesson I think is to avoid wind against tide at all costs. The comforts of the cabin and protection from spray were welcome. I boat for pleasure not masochism

What a shame! One time when you are all coming over and we are not available...due to being at school...
The boat isnt even on the water at the moment, but we will be re-launching for the second half of our season fairly shortly and look forward to joining you on the Alderny cruise in July, although I am having a fairly large op the week before so I may only be able to go in fairly light prevailent conditions.
Hope you have a good time, and we will be very envious of you having gone into the Bassin Vaubin!
Best of luck, and I look forward to seeing any pictures!

Might well be doing an Alderney run next weekend if the weather holds.
