Given that our last (trained) chef had never cooked a fry up before and getting him to do bacon sarnies of any sort was hard work to say the least if you ever fancy a change of career drop me a line.

And if you provide rum too (ashore only!) we might even pay you!

It would be good once numbers are defiantly confirmed and what people want so we can arrange a plan etc etc.

Still a while to go but Wicklow is a small town so we need to pre book what ever is available
We also will need to find out about over night berthing for the ribs i,m sure Wicklow Sailing Club might be able to help on this one, no harm in asking unless we have a volunteer to do a night watch
So any ideas or input would be most welcome

Is it definitely Wicklow then? I thought we'd been talked out of it, what with it being a dump an' all. Either way put us down for a stopover

If Wicklow is a "one horse town" and the horse is dead,,, maybe, some of the options put forward are worth looking at B.S. ??

About 3 Nm further.

Linky

Trip Advisor is usually a good guide for Irish Accommodation and Pubs/Restaurants - look for 4 stars. We're a very critical lot. You'll have heard of Critical Mass... that's when we sit down the back of the chapel whispering about the poor standard of the Homily.

Distance wise there's next to nowt in it. I'm thinking nice safe marina, taxi to comfortable hotel, hot shower, into town, a couple of the blackstuff, good meal, a few more beers, warm bed, good breakfast, nice steady run back, back home for sunday tea

There is a decent marina and 4 Yacht Clubs. Im sure one of them would be happy to accommodate. Im a country member of one of them so I'm sure i could do something there if people are interested?

FYI, I consulted donegaldan, and he highly recommends Dún Laoghaire (good social scene ). The marina is hurricane proof. The urban rail (DART) runs from the marina into Dublin. The Royal Marine Hotel**** overlooks the harbour (2 mins walk) and currently offers a double room for about £75 on a Saturday in July. Reports are good (just don't eat there). The immediate locality has loads of pubs and restaurants. You would have to liase carefully with the Harbour Authority, as you don't want to intermeddle with the big Cats

Obviously the marina has fuel, etc.

That looks a better idea if we group book the hotel they might do it a bit less.

Cheers Willk a big difference to Wicklow and fuel is important no need to hump Jerry cans around town
Distance wise not much in it either but I so like the Look of Wicklow and did say that's where I wanted to go and don't oftern change my mind but ....!! I only suggested this cruise and will go with the flow so people lets have some feed back

The thought had occurred to me. However, I'm not getting involved in a RIBnet group buy

I was going to suggest arranging a "code" or suchlike to enable individuals to book directly with the hotel. If the organisers (Black Shadow & Co) of the cruise want, I will be happy to sound the hotel out...

For those not in the know, hotel rates here have fallen dramatically in the last two years. Often they are similar to B&Bs in cost.

At the heel of the hunt Tony, it's your cruise and you should go where you want. I would.

BTW, I took the liberty of posting the info on Dún Laoghaire as I had checked the accommodation situation in Wicklow town and started to panic. Plus the local lad was dissing his hometown on a UK website (I'm not sure he CAN go back now... )

I'll meet yiz wherever you make land
