Clipper Round the World Race start - 31/07/11

This looks like it could be a great event that would be well worth watching/taking part.

Details as follows;- (Not my words)

All spectator craft to congregate before 1330BST either
in the River Itchen (up stream of Ocean Village) or on the west side of
the channel near Hythe Marina. This is to allow HMS Illustrious to
depart her berth at the QEII terminal and undertake a 180 degree turn
near Mayflower Park and also to allow the Clipper Race Yachts to exit
Ocean Village safely and prepare for the parade down Southampton Water.
The Clipper Race Yachts will prepare for the parade up stream in the
River Test adjacent to 104 dock.

For those of you who are berthed in Ocean Village Marina you should be
aware that between 1315BST and 1445BST there will be no boat movements
permitted. This is to allow the Clipper Race Yachts, official media
craft and the official spectator craft to leave the marina. I recommend
that you leave early to ensure you get out in time for the parade.

For those of you that are berthed up the River Test (Town Quay), we
advise that you depart your berth early so that you are in one of the
areas mentioned above by 1330BST, or wait on your berth until HMS
Illustrious starts to move south at approximately 1430. This is to allow
HMS Illustrious enough room to swing.

Once the Clipper Race Yachts start to make their way down stream and
pass Dock Head, all spectator craft are requested to follow HMS
Illustrious down Southampton Water. HMS Illustrious will be
approximately 100m behind the Clipper Race Yachts.

There will be three spectator information broadcasts made during the day
on Ch 77. Two will follow the scheduled MSI information broadcast by
Solent Coastguard at 1030BST and 1330BST, and the third will be at
1530BST. You are advised to listen to these broadcasts. Any change in
race plans will also be broadcast on VHF ch77 as will the race
countdown.

Once in the Race start area near Cowes three spectator areas have been
defined on the attached information sheet. For the safety and wellbeing
of all we ask that all spectator craft stay within these areas until
after the start gun has been fired. Once the start gun has been fired we
ask that you keep a respectable distance from the Clipper Race Yachts
and remember that they can turn without warning. Each Clipper Race Yacht
will have a marshal allocated to it to and we ask that you please listen
to the instructions given by the marshals.

Hope this helps
Steve
