Cruising Southern Brittany 2006

A few of us are interested in exploring some more in French Coastal Waters this year and will get together this weekend (Saturday) in Portsmouth to sketch out initial plans.

We want to concentrate more on Southern Brittany this year and all advice / suggestions would be most welcome !

Time slot reserved will probably be end July-1st week August.

How far offshore are you planning to go ? I have an idea that involves a sack, some breezeblocks and getting out of an expensive divorce settlement...

Do you still have Florence & Philippe's details from Concarneau ?

I'd love to do Brittany in company, so would very much like to be included at this stage.

Stuart thanks a lot buddy The area will mainly involve St. Nazaire to Lorient with trips to the islands (Belle Ile, Ile Dumet, Houat and Hoedic). We'd be very grateful for the relevant charts and to see yourselves if ye are around on Sat?

Brian it would be brill if you made it ! Thank you, yes we did communicate with Florence and Philippe via the pneuboat website last year. Just need to log on again when we've got some more details. Hope to meet up with them again, perhaps via yourself?

Charles, the plan is to get to Southern Brittany by peeps' chosen methods (to be discussed!) in a smallish and manageable group and then base ourselves there so we can explore the waters and islands (which Paul and I visited last year -still to be written up!!!)

Ile Dumet is near the coast but Belle Isle and the others (slightly longer trips) are very beautiful also. The idea is to explore the coast and pretty harbours and perhaps have a look beyond La Baule area to the South.

Once again, many thanks for your comments and queries as this will help us to plan. Please add any advice you've got?

Kathleen and Paul

Hello Jackeens, since I know you can read French, there's some information on the local slips, 56 is for the Lorient area and 44 for the Saint Nazaire area.

and

Hope to see you there

.

That Silt disposal tug I used to work on runs out of a Concrete yard and dumps 300 tons 6 miles off the Nab.

If you need the skippers number justplace a rolled up copy of The Times on your passenger seat

wotareyoutwolike?

Any other legal and helpful advice regarding cruising the area will be most welcome.

Many thanks to our French counterparts for getting in touch and we will be liaising over the next few months so we can meet up in your favourite areas too!

Just a reminder : initial discussions tonight - Saturday : Lloyds Bar Port Solent at 8.00 ish (although one prominent boater sorted it all out over a pint in the Indian on Thurs ). A conference call may also have to be arranged

Top Gear!!!

Full steam ahead!

That was an excellent gathering at Lloyds on Saturday night. Planning interspersed with refreshments (and a couple of conference calls!) culminated in a first draft to suit everyone interested!

With 13 adults and 6 (perhaps 9 ) kiddos signed up it's going to be great fun !

But we're really looking forward to it and everyone's doing their bit to ensure all goes smoothly.

It will involve a bit of 'Top Gear' type travel!!! As well as accommodation to suit all tastes (not even one star involved but everyone's easygoing ) Anto is the unanimously appointed Financial Adviser!!!

Bookings are underway, a bunch of French Pneuboaters have been in touch and we look forward to the next planning gathering (once St. Paddy's is out of the way )

Wonderful to see everyone and see some of you at Church tonight . Thanks for popping in Andy!!!

Next planning meeting of the group going to Southern Brittany will be Saturday 25th March. We will text everyone with a time and final venue as soon as all have been consulted. An earlier start has been requested to suit some rather wonderful kiddos.

Please bring your ideas and wishlists!

bubbly gathering :)

Great turn-out last night and some intensive planning and commitment by all in anticipation of the forthcoming trip!

Absolutely brill to have Florence & Philippe there!!! And regaling us with tales of French Raids, wonderful lighthouses, islands and of course the unforgettable mula mula fish (sp? ) (Sorry you couldn't make this one Shooz.)

Big welcome to some lovely new peeps also!

The agenda was sidetracked by some major congratulations to Antoinette & Martin, Mark Halliday (aka Sir Hal Markaday) and of course Pete and Vivienne. Absolutely wonderful news all round.

Tony-hope Spike behaved (nice one Liverpool!!!!)

Lovely to see you all and many thanks for all amazing contributions!!! Some peeps were a bit knackered from faffing around RIBex all day. Bless.

OK OK Carly (aka Leonardo!!!) you were first in & last out!! We still think that engine will be too much for ya!!!!

Looks like some French Ribster doods will be happy to make us welcome when we hit S. Brittany!

Party Guest Logbook :)

In the clear up after the gathering we located some things peeps left behind!

Most have been claimed but as far as I can make out we still have :

1) a large platter
2) a pyrex dish
3) a decorative glass plate
4) a CD

All the guests were certainly of the easygoing and affable personality type but .....

just in case a big complaint appears online......

Please collect soon!
