This is the time of year when I can’t wait to get back on the water. I have therefore been thinking about warmer times and planning a rib rallye in May. Having consulted the tides and discussed with Chris at Ty Calch we have agreed that the 11th and 12th May 2019 would be the most suitable weekend. This also happens to be the Welsh ladies Race for Life weekend for Cancer Research when the access road to Chris’s will be closed on the Sunday but we think we can work around this problem. It also happens to be Caernarfon food festival on the Saturday to add a further bit of interest. I would therefore suggest you book any accommodation early to get the best deals!
The plan for the weekend is therefore as follows.
Saturday: Caernarfon to Conway
Leave Caernarfon at 11.00 through the Swellies and up to Puffin taking in the seals and birds. From Puffin we will then head to Molefre, take a look at more seals by Ynys Dulas and onto Point Lynas.
The intention is then to head back to Conway at about 13.00. The marina gates open approximately 3 hours before high water. High water Conway on 11th May is 16.37 so all being well we should get in just before 14.00. While waiting for the gate to open we can head up the River Conway and take a look at the castle. We will then leave Conway at 15.00 and head back to Caernarfon via Puffin and the Gazelle for recovery at Chris’s around 17.00.
Please note that the marina may charge a fee of around £10 per rib however I will try and negotiate a better rate. They also have facilities for refuelling which might of interest for some.
Saturday night I will try and arrange a social event – more details to follow later.
Sunday: Anglesey West Coast/Ty Coch
For those fancying a run out on the Sunday then there is the option to have a more leisurely run up the west coast of Anglesey or if the weather is really good head to the beach at the Ty Coch. Those who want to go out on the Sunday need to launch from Chris’s no later than 10.00. All launching will stop at 10.00 for the Race for Life. Incidentally Chris will only be launching exclusively for the Rib Rallye on Sunday. Recovery will be available from early afternoon when the road reopens.
Please note that ribs on trailers left at Chris’s overnight on Saturday will need to be picked up before the road closes at 10.00am or you’ll have to wait until mid-afternoon.
There is no charity attached to the Rib Rallye but please remember that on the Sunday there will be a good crowd of ladies running for Cancer Research and I am sure they will appreciate any donations to a cause that at some time will have an impact on us all. Donations can be made on the day.
As in previous years could you fill in the spreadsheet to help let us know how many will be launching. Copy and paste the following link into your browser and you should be able to edit. Any problems or questions just pm me.

Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing you all again!
