i'm booked into hotel at the marina from Friday and planned to keep the boat there...only slight niggle is there is 45min jaunt to easdale in the boat.
anyone else based for the weekend in the marina?
not sure i've done the right thing, may be should have looked further down but wasn't sure of mooring availability/hotels, but live and learn
cheers

Xk59D, are all the local b and b's full? Personally I'd rather stay in Easdale or one of the places close enough to stagger to than all the way at dunstaffnage. Not least because the eying social side of things is there and you don't want to be cruising back in the dark after a few shandies. But also because the community go to the effort of organising and accepting a bunch of noisy smelly ribs for the weekend (and noisy smelly ribnobbers ) and it seems appropriate to spend your money on food, drink, accommodation there. Tony seems to have space to Moor boats afloat and then his team run a big sib around as a shuttle service to get folk to / from shore.

Tony has previously suggested that alternative plans could be formulated for the wee boats. Last yr I managed to blag a seat in something full size so have a reasonable perspective. the conditions last year were as good as you could hope for, and the route was relatively sheltered. The group don't travel as a massive flotilla but tend to pair up (well maybe upto four boats together) and then rendezvous at various places. That let's those with higher speeds exercise their engines better and the slower folk catch up. I doubt anyone was making less than 20 kts though. Looking at this year's plans I decided that it was more exposed than last year and so the wee boat is staying at home.
If you come in a 3.3 you'll be made welcome and it could be done, but unless you have great weather and probably some real experience of those sort of big sib trips you might find it tough going (or having to stay in the bar!).
As jambo says there are plans for a trip in the same sort of area specifically designed around smaller/slower boats.

Quite happy to change plans and go closer, I dont really fancy 15 miles each way just to get there as it were.
Finding somewhere with rooms is a bit of a problem though.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

With the better half its always a bit tougher to find accomadation that suits...and if the Pods don't suit?
A compromise may be putting in and Mooring at Puffin with us...a short Hop to Easedale, and find somewhere to stay in Oban a few minutes away..a B&B small Hotel?
It still means a trip back from Easedale in the Dark...but hey that'll be fun!
