ERR update

We have received a number of emails.
Accommodation - carolyn will update as to where she is aware accommodation is still available.
Food etc - The Oyster Bar has been taken over by Lyden and Dawn Singleton. Lyden is an ex Seafari crew who was around for the first ERR. He fell in love and never left the area.
The Puffer Bar sees chef Des return having spent time in Devon.
Contact them directly for meals

The boating question asked is can one land either at the east or west side of Oronsay. The answer is yes, we do it with our 11m cabin RIB in calm conditions. Land onto rocks. On the west side you need to move off and anchor. We take a dinghy.
On the east side you can work with a long painter and a kedge, a bit more technical

I chatted with Carolyn today re registrations. She was saying there are a number of new Ribsters registered, the general regulars which brings the numbers to around 30 at the moment. The usual local reprobates who register either at the last moment or never register but turn up are as expected.

Please spread the word, we look for fair weather

Tony

Yea you can camp behind the highland arts in the car park There's quite a few do it. You will have bring strong pegs and a big hammer as the ground is hard therefore also remember an air mattress. See you there. J

Yes there's toilets and wash room. Check with Carolyn at Seafaring office. It's on the Seil side. You moor in Easdale harbour.

And just in case you are not familiar with the area there is a small passenger ferry to get you back from the island after you secure your boat so no need to faff about with tenders etc.

Ah okay I've watched boats coming in and out of what looks like a small harbour on the seil side when sat on one of the mooring bouys I did assume this was the harbour. It will be good to get a look around onshore.we must have passed through 10 times or more and never ventured ashore purely because we never know the score with using the moorings

Is it any less lumpy than the car park?

Beamishken,
The loo / washbasin is in the tiny building at the head of the pier. 2 min walk to the camping and 30 seconds walk from the pub! If you bring your toothbrush to the pub it saves a return trip!

Also bring an air bed.. .. karrimats just don't cut it.... don't ask me how I know....

Not long to go now !

For those arriving by road - please can you pop into the Seafari Ticket Office on the harbour square when you arrive so I can record your arrival .... and to say hello !

For those arriving by water and heading straight to Easdale Island please can you register your arrival with Duncan who will be in or around the island hall.

Many thanks !

As you will be aware we tend to send out an email and post updates from the middle of the week. Everything is ready. If you were to look at forecasts, yesterday gave F6 to F7 for Saturday., today they have reduced this to F4 to F5. We have watched the forecast this season and what has been predicted a week ahead is rarely what we get on the day.
We will have something up our sleeve for the day, just come with an open mind, warm and waterproof clothes along with a sense of humour.

Tony

Err 2018 :-)

Yet again, we will not be up for the 2017 ERR. Our first and only one was the Colonsay jaunt some time ago which was a one-off for us where Easter and May day fell within a week of each other, and we managed an extended stay
Unfortunately, 20+ years of tradition of Oban for both the Easter and Late May holiday weekends preclude joining the event - so, (Mike @Puffin is in shock) we have changed plans for 2018 and 'booked' in for the May Day weekend.
There's nothing quite like forward planning I say, so hopefully Tony and co wont change 2018, and god willing, we look forward to joining and meeting up with all then :-)
Hope the weather is good for you next weekend - we are in Largs so will suffer/benefit from pretty much the same I guess.
Safe ribbing guys

Well - at the moment out there it is north / north west 6 to gale 8 .... the joy ! However, we can hope that this is just the weather getting itself out its system. Just popped outside to get a photo for you and caught Alan MacFadyen at the ferry shed !

Like Tony said - we'll post a weather update a wee bit later in the week.
