I am a person who works with people complaining for a living. I am wondering if the complainant has any grounds to be unhappy with the ERR. It is my experiance that nearly all complaints have some small amount of validity attached to them. (this can be very small by the way to the other party and just simply overlooked)
I have never been to ERR. Could this persons complaint relate to an activity linked to the ERR and if so is there a way to modify the activity so as to address their concerns?
These comments are general however they are based on 13 years of experience of dealing with complaining *****.
Before I am eaten for this comments which to some may seem stupid I think that all ribnet members that have been to ERR should reflect on their activity when visiting the area over the last few events and think did they do something to invoke such annoyance.
However given that the Seafari was the contact point for the ERR a company which relies on dealing with people (locals and tourists alike). I suspect that the ERR was well organised.
Regard
TSM

it was very well organized . it was my first visit and although my own stupidity meant I only got one day out what I saw was well behaved folk having fun responsibly .I stayed at the caravan site on luing so wasn't there on the evenings when folk were probably enjoying the hospitality so cant say for then but I never saw anything that would warrant a complaint .I bet the pub etc. never complained when they cashed up. anyway it wont stop me having another short break on luing with me new boat

It is perhaps only fair to point out
That the single complainant made no reference to the behaviour of anyone visiting Easdale. The thrust of the complaint was that the local charitable trust who own the harbour were not fulfilling their responsibilities as owners. The complaint included that the island’s pontoon ( not the Seafari pontoon) was dangerous and should not be used. There was loose materials both around the harbour and on the seabed in the harbour. He questioned the security of the trusts pontoon to the seabed. He questioned the condition of the communities external mooring.
The pontoon had been positioned and anchored by volunteers. The external mooring - need to be careful here- is inspected by Seafari when they inspect their own moorings.
Pontoon is secured to the seabed - 35mm ground chains across the width of the harbour, 450kg trainwheels at either end. It’s a mud bottom. Riser chains are 16mm and replaced every 3 years.
The external mooring is a visitors mooring so not in regular use hence there is no swivel at the buoy. The 16mm riser chain is replaced every 3 years. In really strong winds yachts are politely asked to find a marina.
Maybe the complainant wants a marina at Easdale.
If you have attended ERR please do not think the complainant is having a go at you guys. He was having a go at the volunteers who are directors of our community trust Eilean Eisdeal. It is essential this point is clarified.
Tony

Perhaps the complainant doesnt like other people enjoying his location, the err must bring a lot of interest to the area, the actual event and other visitors who 'found' the place because of the event.
The interest probably brings a lot of visitors and perhaps he would rather not have so many people enjoying the area and invading his 'perceived' space.
There are also people who for one reason or another don't like to see ventures flourish perhaps he doesn't like seafari making a success of things
It's a shame but it only takes one bad apple to spoil things for everyone

If it helps I have an estate car so no need to pitch a tent?
...or is this the excuse I've been waiting for to buy a nice cabin redbay?

Unrest
Given we're hoping to attend Easdale this year on the May Bank holiday weekend (whether or not there's an 'official' ERR) I did a bit of trawling. Interesting long read here , and the full report, gives the flavour of the thing I think. Confirms Tony's assertion that there was no grumbling about the ERR or rowdy ribbers disturbing the peace. Looks like an entirely 'internal' matter.
Looking forward to our visit.
Been meaning to do this for years!

MM went on to say that if an independent Consultant came in to do an assessment of the Harbour, they would agree with him about the health and safety.
Mike went on to say if he is wrong, he will make an apology to everyone if they emerge with a clean bill of health.

Apologies all round then

EASDALE RIB RENDEZVOUS will go ahead
Whether officially or not
Seafari will have a boat heading to Colonsay/Oronsay departing Easdale 0930 Saturday 5th May. You are welcome to join us.
Carolyn who organises everything returns from hibernation in the Spanish Hills mid February and will be on the case shortly thereafter.
Book your accommodation.
Camping at Highland Arts is unlikely
Staying in your motorhome - don't really see a problem. The local council who have been very helpful but rightly say that if there are complaints then they have to be seen to act are concerned over welfare facilities but accept motorhomes/campervans have their own.
I will let The Oyster Bar tel 01852 300121 and The Puffer Bar tel 01852 300022 know we are going ahead.
Eilean Eisdeal the harbour owners have never been anything but supportive. Same fee as last year £10/night. Weekly discount for those staying longer.
Website will be updated when Carolyn is back.
Please spread the word
Tony

I'm not sure what the Russian for "first class motor boating" is. I've Googled it but just get pictures of well developed ladies
