Yes [emoji1] in the sense too high for the ferry until 9. Tide over the top of the slip. Took a long time to go out. Dropped now [emoji106]. Still some strops to change out but that can be done from the pontoon in better weather [emoji1]

Hope all is good

Good morning Tony,

I apologise for the delay in getting back to you, I have been waiting for an update from our Avian Flu Task Force.

I can now confirm that we currently do not have any plans to completely close any seabird islands. We have been working, through the Scottish Avian Influenza Task Force, to further understand how the virus is transmitted within seabird colonies, and what practical actions can be put in place that would help seabirds try to cope in the event that an HPAI outbreak happens again. At this stage we are developing a series of biosecurity measures and ways to minimise disturbance to birds, such as disinfecting footwear and restricting access to certain areas when necessary, that can still allow access onto the islands. The guidance will be distributed to boat operators in the next couple of weeks. We will continue to keep this under review as the season progresses.

Best wishes,
Esther

Easdale RIB Rendezvous 2023

So you’re going to disinfect your boots, while thousands of sea birds fly from island to island shitting everywhere and Shagging (or Terning [emoji3]) themselves silly. Sounds like a re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, box ticking exercise.

Could I respectfully request that the thread sticks to its purpose and posts remain focussed on Easdale’s RIB Rendezvous. I posted my previous thread as some attending may wish to or visit islands with bird colonies. Lunga on The Treshnish Isles being a well recognised bird breeding area and indeed closed during 2022. By visiting The Cairns of Coll one isn’t far away. As a boat operator who visits islands it is important we get these things right. Hence the request to NatureScot for information.
At ERR each skipper is responsible for their own actions. Had islands been closed for this season and a group of RIBs landed on a closed Island there would be comeback on the event and possibly Seafari Adventures for not distributing appropriate information.
My previous post offered information. It indicates where the information was sourced. I hope the information provided offers clarity. The individual who responded to me did so on behalf of NatureScot. Please read and I request that comments focus on the content that is relevant to ERR only

Many thanks

Tony

Update on the event

Thursday - Boats have started to arrive at Easdale.
The forecast keeps changing at every update but my personal opinion is that all will make it to our proposed Saturday destination, Cairns of Coll.
Easdale to Cairns of Coll is 40nm. Fuel available at Tobermory.

Departure time Saturday is 0930 Easdale. Passing Duart circa 1000/1010.
Event Vhf channel 77
Safety
Boat skippers are responsible for all decisions and the safety of all onboard.
We advise lifejackets worn at all times. Plenty of warm clothing required.
We advise minimum group size of 3 boats.
Please no wake crossing/jumping.
Be mindful of the RYA advice on alcohol.

See you all on the water

Team Seafari.
