Did I luck out with the one soft spot there? I got most of my pegs in with the sole of me boot!
Judging by the pain in my back the next morning I think my pegs ot the better part of the deal..... Airbed instead of karrimat this year!
Edit: I'll third the brewery!

Sorry TSM, I missed that post. That's a "piece of string" question. The quick answer is that with the right weather, yes of course.
I took my old 6.5m almost as far up there in a day. However, I'm a very cautious type and I'm the worst person to ask - I have been towed back twice (thanks Tom)
I think what you're looking at is can you trust a weather window and your kit to hold up long enough to get home? Or can you raise a Plan B - a way home if it all goes pear shaped?
Watch the wave maps on Yr.no for a few weeks - you'll get a feel for the North Channel. Once you've crossed that, it's a fairly simple/sheltered run from there.

TSM,
We effectively did that trip in reverse (there and back in a day) in an 11m boat this summer on an absolutely beautiful day and you'd have been fine taking a 5m boat - indeed I'd even have considered doing it in a 4m boat with company - but I'd guess 28 other days that month I'd have run a mile if you suggested doing it in a 5m boat.
Your issue will be if the weather turns whilst in Scotland. Would you be happy leaving the boat in Easdale and getting home on public transport? (I'd guess you'd scrounge a list to Oban, or possibly Glasgow without too much trouble). Then retrieving it a few weeks later, on your own - can you be flexible enough to go back whenever there is good weather or would you need to take the car and tow it? What if you set off from Easdale but decide half way that you need to take shelter? Options for somewhere to dump the boat and get home from then become a bit more restrictive.
If I wanted to go from N.Ireland to Easdale on a small rib I would want to pick the date to suit the weather opportunity rather than feeling any pressure to do it on a weekend picked months in advance. If I really wanted to be in Easdale with the Ribnet repribates that weekend I'd either be looking for a backup plan if near the time if it looked choppy or be towing the boat there.

Good advice given. I think my own suspicisions have been answered. The trip would be fine in very settled weather but if it turns nasty it could be a different story.
