Easter Alderney day trip - Friday 6 or Saturday 7 April 2007

We are planning a trip from the Solent (Portsmouth) to Alderney for lunch on either the Friday or Saturday on the Easter weekend in our 7.5m Scorpion with 225 Optimax. Anyone interested in a cruise in company? Gavin

Alderney day trip

Howe
I would be happy to join you, I berth in Poole, so we could arrange a meeting waypoint and get over for a beer with Brian.(Looking forward to seeing you again Brian)
Any day will be OK. We can look at weatherforcasts for the best day.
I'll speak to a couple of others to see if their up for it.
Cheers

See you've got a serious boat now. Clearly crossing from Alderney to Poole, while others jumped on a plane, when sea conditions were a little "fresh" showed you what great boats they are.

If you had a spare seat on your boat I'd sure like to dust my drysuit off.

Cheers

Mark

Alderney

Looks like quite a fleet of Scorpions. I agree with watching the weather and picking our day close to the time of departure. I look forward to driving in waves that are a bit further apart than those in the Solent for a change. Gavin

Alderney Day Trip

We have been down to KB Boats in Portsmouth today getting Seahorse ready for the run. We fitted a second outboard (Tohatsu 18hp) that I normally use for our small Zodiac tender. Its a short shaft, but should work okay. Our preference is to go on the Friday, but of course, it depends on the weather.

Which is the best bar/ lunch venue? I used to go to the Divers but when I last sailed there 3 years ago it was all closed and there was a lot of construction work going on round the Seaview Hotel.

Gavin

The Seaview Hotel is now called The Braye Beach Hotel and is mega-expensive.

The Divers has re-opened under new management, but........

Your best bet (50yds further on) is the Moorings. Also under new management but with a massive outdoor terrace..........and you can still smoke in Alderney pubs.

Funny thing. Very few people get past the immediate harbour area.........?

Nomally we'd love to Gavin. It's a great trip. We may be joining a Southern Brittany cruise with our french neighbours this Easter.

Hopefully the weather is good and you have a safe blast! A few of us will be crossing in the summer.

Alderney Day Trip

Looking at the weather charts it seems that Friday may be good for the crossings with a large area of high pressure sitting over the UK. We plan to set off from Portsmouth early and top up the fuel in Yarmouth. This means that we should be at the Bridge Buoy off the Needles at 9am. We will obviously check the weather closer to the time but that's our plan at the moment.

Gavin

Sorry all, serviced the engine this weekend and found an oil leak on the turbo which cannot be rectified for the weekend.
I'll bum a lift if anybody has a space.
Cheers
