Perhaps Weymouth is a little too far for a cruise t this time of year.
If you fancy something a little easier, how about a quick troll around the solent, then up to the Folly for a 'crew pot', ad back to Portsmouth?
If your interested, or anyone else for that mater, let me know

Feb Cruise
Hi Graeme,
This sounds ideal as my first cruise, especially as this morning it is still only -2
I am available this sunday or next W/end. Never been to the folly for lunch but have heard it is very good. Solent is my local water so I know my way round.
Weather forcast is looking promising for this w/end high preasure, cold & dry. Graeme please pm me if you would still like to go.
Come on guys get your thermals out & lets blow the cobwebs away.
Cheers

Dylan and I will be around the Solent/Poole area from Wednesday 26th to Sunday 2nd if anyone is around it would be good to meet up.
Neap tides around the end of the week, and the weathers not looking too bad at the moment.

Well the Feb cruise to Weymouth was been completed last Saturday.
All I can say is thank god for bilge pumps and trim tabs.
The only other boat out that day was the Weymouth Life Boat.
The sun was shining and the beer was cold so we ( just me and some very wet friends ) had a great day.

Hi Mark
I take it was rough at the weekend then. I thought it was suppose to be good weather. Obviously not.

Finally got Topaz back with her now fully serviced engine!
For interest - how long does it take to get from the Portsmouth area to Weymouth, and is there any local hazards / issues to be aware of?
Cheers
Graeme

Weymouth
Hi Graeme
There's not much in the way of navigation Hazzards on the way to Weymouth, Just keep an eye out for lobster pots around the headlands. Apart from that you will be fine. Its about 40nm to Weymouth so about 1 hour and a half at a reasonable speed. Say 2 from Portsmouth.
Oh just remembered the army firing range at lulworth cove area. If there fireing you need to run 6 miles ofshore to avoid the fire. If they are using the range you will see red flags on the cliffs and 2 patrol boats along that section of coast.

As far as time goes it all depends on weather and speed.
There are a number of headlands, if you are hugging the coast, that may make for fun.
Most can be got around other than St Albans Head which can have some big over-falls ( similar to the Needles ). On my way down to Weymouth I had to run a few miles offshore until I found a hole in wall of water and found a way through the big / steep following sea. It was at this point in the day when the CG issued a strong winds warning ( Force 6 ).
Once I was past there the water was more regular.
Weymouth Bay is sandy and shallows which was lumpy on our way back. Its no real problem and just a matter of pushing through.
Great day as the sun was out and the waves were interesting.
If you fancy a trip sometime give me a shout.
Regards
Mark

Daniel (1),
What are your plans for Sunday 2nd? I'm busy 'till sat. pm but might tow down for Sunday if you are about - i get the impression you have some local knowledge and would like to draw upon it being a solent first-timer! Also my usual 'crew' has gone to Southampton uni and would be able to pop down!

Week End Trip
Hi Guy's,
If people are wanting to meet up this w/end 1st 2nd may I suggest we try for the "FOLLY" trip again?
I am keen to go exploring but not on my own not much experience. Daniel this would mean you could launch Portsmouth & cruise up to Southampton Water.
I would suggest meet in the Camber Dock at Portsmouth, Launching & Parking Facilities & Toilets & Cafe on hand aswell.
I know it is a neap tide not sure on times will check tonite.
If anyone is interested pm me to confirm.
Happy playtimes

HW Portsmouth on Sunday (only day i could make) is just before miday. I have no local knowledge what-so-ever of this area but am very keen to visit the Infamous Foley with some people who do have the local knowledge!
Ageing youth (don't know your real name) if you fancy this then Sunday meet @ portsmouth would prob. be good, but will need to check Land Rover is free @ work!

This Sunday
Hi Guy's
It is looking promising for this Sunday. High Tide is approx mid morning, Those of you wish to go meet up in the Camber Dock for about 10:30am?
Then once we are all together head off to have lunch/drink's at The Folly pub.
This may sound like a daft question but dose anyone know it exact location, I have heard of it but never been there.
We have had an offer for a camera man to take some pic's to post on the net (thank's Pete).
Weather forcast is looking reasonable for w/end. If anyone is unsure on the morning give me a ring on 07761 864043 not before 08:00 please. If you are on the water & Travelling Ch16 callsign "Southcoast Two"
See you all Sunday.

The Folly Inn
is on the River Medina, upriver of Cowes about 3-4 miles on the left hand bank. It has its own pontoon moorings which certainly in the summer at least you have to pay for even if eating there.
HTH,
Alan
