Fowey, Cornwall - Friday 30 May to Sunday 1 June 2008
ok, want to get something organized for weekend commencing Friday 30th May 08, untill sunday pm.
to give you an idea...
Penmarlem Campsite is situated at Fowey,Cornwall, this will be the meet point, for those who would like to join up, the campsite is a minutes walk to the Slipway and jetty, it is really fantastic there as Nos will vouch for it, there is a pub located 5 mins away by boat and you can moor up outside, great fun navigating back after a few, (at 3 knots of course), Morning time, there is a great place for breccie, on the waters edge overlooking out towards the river,a raised grassy bit,,(will be taking barbecue stuff and fishing stuff as well ) and all that,
head out 9 ish quick look at Lantic Bay (5 mins away) and head to the Isles Of Scilly where we will find a night stop, either camp out or something else,
ive never done this trip before or been this far, But it is a trip that im going to do on those dates,
Im sure Nos is up for it, chris and Hightower, Would be great to have Biggles Ian Mconnell ,Neil Harvey, Come on codders, Roy Smith, Phil B,
a couple of fuel points on the way out if reqd,
This would be a cruise and not a race, this part of the coast is amazing and not to be missed,
any other info on the trip and or places to see en route, refueling stop offs, where to stay on the isles would be great, even pics to get the 2 stroke flowing would be great,,
i will be trailering the boat down, trailer security in Penmarlem is good, Cameras and coded access to get to the slip and trailer storage for 2 nights.
want it to be family Friendly jaunt as well, more the merrier!!
Roll up Roll up!!

I´d love to come, but will have to check out schedules at work - I have a feeling that is a no can do weekend!
There are a couple of long weekends they have in Switzerland so might be possible, but need to check the dates

Matt, will keep an eye out for this one nearer the time, sounds like a good one to be on, however bit more of a B & B, Hotel chap :-), dont think the old back can handle camping anymore.

Eh?!!! Have you ever been to Cornwall? The only way to come ashore on that stretch of water is on a surfboard.

After talking to Matt about this trip I am of the mind that a w/e would not be enough time to really enjoy the trip from Fowey as well as have enough time to enjoy the Scillies seeing as you are looking at close to 89NM each way if you take the scenic route following the coast.
I would like to suggest an alternative venue of Rock in Cornwall to depart from which is about 67NM with a stop off at St Ives about 30 miles into the trip.
I know of a campsite there where the trailers could be stored and I am pretty sure the beachmaster at Rock could give us morrings for an hour whilst we got ourselves sorted trailers dropped off etc.
A starting point for an itinerary could be as follows..
Friday
12-00 head out of Rock
14-00 stop off at St Ives for Lunch
17-00 arrive at St Martins Campsite
Saturday
Spent exploring !
Sunday
10-00 set off for home run
1-30 Fish & Chips at Padstow
3-00 Load up and head home sunburnt & happy
I have deliberately kept it vague as lets face it if people are driving down on Friday the timings may drift a bit.
The St Martins Campsite have a chalet which may be available for those of you who can't face a night under Nylon. http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/...ite/index.html
Tides are looking good as we would be right on Neaps and high tide would be 2-00pm so ideal for St Ives and also good for the Scillies as we would be arriving at about mid tide.
I would plan to go down on the Thursday afternoon to enjoy a couple of beers and not have to face a drive down early on the Friday although I imagine for most it would be Friday?
Matt and I will be there, who else is going to make it a date?
I would think any takers will need to book space at the campsite on St Martins to be safe and also moorings which I am finding out more details on.
Chris

The whole of the North Coast is very tidal and open to Atlantic onshore swell (surf) 67Nm over there will feel like 100 in small ribs unless you get well offshore. There will be no fuel available, the harbours dry out and sell ice creams, fish and chips and not much else. The Cape Cornwall to Sennen leg would be particularly exposed.
By the way, we do the Scillies out of Falmouth which is 18Nm west of Fowey. With a bit of tootling around the islands we clock up over 200 Nm per round trip. This might be worth noting for your fuel calcs. Fuel on the Scillies is mega money and complicated to obtain.

Well we won't have a problem with the harbour drying as we will be arriving at high tide, fish and chips sounds great!, I like ice cream too! If we top up tanks at St Ives then we should not need to buy too much fuel at the Scillies
Why don't you join us Mollers you could show us around !

Hi
Stayed at the camp site opposite Fowey last year great area we did over 400 miles in the week, East to Salcombe and west to the Runnel Stone, south to Eddystone Rocks we we’re lucky and had good weather light winds and flat seas.
I would think that a trip to the isles of Scilly would be very weather dependant (you would need to ask a local who’s done it) and at least on the south coast you can go to other places instead of looking at the waves crash into the north coast. The distance going from the north or south looks to be very similar to me if you go as the crow flies over water
We got fuel in Salcombe £1.39 litre & Mylar £1.27 litre and I believe you can get it in cans in Looe at high tide as the garage is next to the harbour but I haven’t done it.
Pics of the slip etc at the camp site
James

I recognise those 2 ribs
I might not be up for this yet-various reasons. Normally I'd jump at the idea but at the moment I can't commit to anything.
