Great year for maritime lovers

Portsmouth is hosting SeaBritain 2005, the festival that both commemorates the 200th anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar and celebrates Britain's maritime tradition. There is stuff happening all year.

See this link then look at pages 2 to 4 (The <next> link does not work well try a few times)

http://www.portsmouthtoday.co.uk/Vie...ticleID=916348

As you will see there are masses of opportunities for some excellent cruising .. as many of these events will be better viewed from the sea.

Some highlights:

June 11
Sea Carnival, Portsmouth Harbour
Parade of every seaworthy boat kept in and around Portsmouth and Langstone harbours

June 19-30
Trafalgar Tall Ship Voyage, Dublin to Portsmouth

June 28
International Fleet Review, Spithead
Warships from more than 40 of the world's navies gather for a review by The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh

June 28
Son et Lumiere display, off Southsea beach
Spectacular re-enactment of a Napoleonic naval battle using pyrotechnics and music, ending with firework display

June 30-July 3
International Festival of the Sea, Portsmouth
Celebration of all things nautical, with tall ship visits, historic recreations and chances to visit ships from the Fleet Review

July 17
Return of the Global Challenge Yachts to Portsmouth
The round-the-world odyssey finishes after 10 months

September 3-4
Eastern Solent Regatta
Expected fleet of 1,000 yachts competing

October 22
Trafalgar Gun Firing and Firework Spectacular, Gosport

Get your diary's out now .... also accomodation in the area will be full, so plan soon.

If anybody outside of the area is thinking about coming and needs any local knowledge of any type there are loads of us on there that would be keen to assist you.

(It's a shame Ricky and myself will be at the Wimbledon Championships working for all of June and will miss all of it!! Hopefully we can scab off)

Thanks for posting info Andy. We're hoping to get along to some of those. Some good excuses for some (mini) cruises and meet ups in there so hope to see loads of you on the water! And in the pub, no doubt!
