I need a replacement slip to Camber Dock
Now that theres very limited trailer parking at Camber, i need to find a different slip for us with our 6m rib.
Someone mentioned a good slip into the Itchen, with easy parking and full tidal range, any ideas as to exactly where it might be so that i can try it out.
We so miss our beloved Camber😢

Hi,
Yes it's a shame about the situation at The Camber at the moment. However, don't be too sad as it won't be that long before "normality" is restored.
Construction work on the Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) building is drawing to a close and it will not be long before the contractors vehicles (which currently take up most of the available parking) are gone. I've taken a picture of the site "as is" today.
In the next few weeks the plan is to open a new 65-space "pay & display" car park along with a dedicated trailer park. I can't be precise on timing as yet, but will keep you posted.
Currently, there is "unofficial" permission to leave trailers at the top of the slipway, but space is limited. Parking wise - it's like the wild west down here with car being more abandoned than parked and very little traffic management. (I think the wardens have been told to stay away at the moment). Please don't park in my KB spaces though, as they are rigorously patrolled and it will cost you £60 if you get a ticket!!!
So, normality will be restored and I'll keep people updated.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
Many thanks for such a comprehensive reply, I quite thought that Portsmouth council wouldn't be that bothered about replacing the old trailer park as it didn't really bring any real revenue in other than the pay and display part for the tow car!!
Would be great to be able to use the slip again, so I'll look forward to your updates on the situation,

BAR unveil new sponsors today - can you guess??
What it has done is made them speed up the building work and the first lot of construction containers have now gone from what will be the "pay & display" publi car park and trailer park
So things will be back to "normal" quite soon.
Regards
Steve

Is it me, or does the design of the building make it look as if the Union Flag is upside down?
I'll get me coat

Good to see the parking coming back, came down to Camber a couple of weeks ago and was horrified to find nowhere to park the car / trailer! Tim at the KB centre was really helpful though. Such a nice site because you can load the family on safely and cleanly at any tide state.

AJ,
I would think you should be OK.
The contractors have all but gone and that has taken some of the strain off parking. The photo attached shows that the last few containers are being removed (today) from what will be the Pay & Display car park (to the right of the pic) and last week-end people were parking cars and trailers in that area. It's not my land so I can't give any official opinion, but nobody seemed too concerned last weekend.
Finally, if you get stuck, give me a call - I'm sure I can give you some helpful advice.
Kind regards

Thanks Steve.
Might have to chance it, launching anywhere else is proving problematic due to tide times and I'm working til late on Saturday.

Hi Buckribster, yes we are. Bear in mind last time I parked there in 2013 I had to park the car and trailer in a residential street 20 minute drive away and get a taxi back! Leave enough time just in case!

I need a replacement slip to Camber Dock
Oh, and the locals refused to move their cars off the centre of the slip causing untold annoyance.

Wow! I never had any problems parking in the P&D spaces, or launching until BAR took over the site last year. Steve (Dry Run) has been a mine of information. And if we need to go far away, at least we can share a taxi ;-)
Hopefully the meter maids may be a little lenient during the construction works.
What time are you planning to get there?

Hopefully! I'm aiming for between 8 and 9. By the time we have faffed about at the bottom of the green slippy slip time will be ticking!

Return of the trailer park
New free trailer park at The Camber docks is now available. It's not huge (I guess about 6 trailers sensibly parked. However, combinesd with the trailer parking at the top left of the slipway, it's certainly an improvement on the current situation.
The Pay & Display car park is being patched and lined tomorrow and will be available after this weekend (from Monday 27th).
Kind regards
Steve

Hi,
Americas Cup lot are heading to Sweeden and construction has all but finished (they are putting the "wrap" on the building, but that's juat a crane and a few guys).
Trailer park is up and running and P&D car park is available for use from 6pm to 7am weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday (+ bank holidays).
So, you should be OK
Steve
