The name tags.
OK I suppose I asked to be "volunteered", didn't I?
Right, I have bought some pin-on "conference tags" and am preparing to type up the cards to go in them.
Below is a list of attendees given to me by Charles. I propose to print a tag for each giving "My name" and "My rib.net Handle".
Would you please fill in the question mark/blanks for me and e-mail me.
PS In accordance with my strict principles NO-ONE HAS GOT TO WEAR A TAG, if they don't want !!
My Name is : My ribnet name is:
Charles St.Clair-Bolam Charles
Manos Manos
Daniel Hawkes ?
Martin Stacey ?
David Clarkson ?
Andre Andre
Mike Garside MikeGarside
Alan Winnett Alan
Brian Elliott Brian
Andy Micklewright ?
Keith Hart Keith Hart
Richard Bateson Pepper
? Aging Youth
Mike Carson ?
David Williams ?
Look forward to your replies.
Any questions???

Also, other boatless turn-er-uppers:

Aging Youth is also known as Kevin.
I've never met him but spoken to him on the phone - since his e-mail address is kevin.luter my super povers suggest his surname might be Luter!
Hope that helps.

Brian
I would really like to be there - but my other half is away that weekend and Im not sure about launching and recovering alone.
Does anyone have any details about the slipway facilities etc at the Mayflower Marina - is it 'User Friendly'.
I have looked on Boatlaunch but still cant get a good idea of the facilities available
Thanks for any information anyone may be able to give
Graeme Cooper
'Topaz' (6.2 Metre Avon)

Graeme, there are 15 other RIB's going, so i'm sure someone will give you a hand be it in the boat, with the trailer, in the car or whatever.
I too have no idea what the slip is like, boatlaunch is good but not that good at discribing if you can or can't use your car! I'm more than happy to volunteer to give you a hand - we can even arrange a time if you like, but i'll be there Sat a.m.
Daniel

Slip nr Mayflower
Graeme,
Slipway is not actually at the marina but just the other side of the appartment block adjacent to the marina. It is on boatlaunch as "Slipway near mayflower marina". Not ideal for solo launch and recovery as nowhere really to tie up once launched. However as Daniel points out there should be enough people around to give you a hand.

Hi does anyone know if the slip is suitable for a normal car to launch? I don't like my boot full of water!

I looked at that slip about 6 years ago and decided it was too tricky for me. (I was new at it!) It was also very slippy at low tide and the man in the local boatyard said he had seen a couple of cars in trouble that day. The other main difficulty is you can't turn right at the top of the slip with a long trailer..... and left is a block end, (boat yard actually). So there will have to be a bit of shunting I think! Also it's not very wide and there is a wall on one side and a drop on the other. Other wise it's great! I went and used Queen Anne’s Battery instead.... shallow wide slip, pontoon etc.
Having said that, QAB is costly and I am very mean now. Plus, 6 years ago I had only had my first boat for about a month and I couldn't back-up very well. Since then I've launched at many places including Dover, (which is even narrower), loads of times and not fallen off the edge yet.....
So, to sum up, an ordinary car MAY have difficulty at low tide... (Lots of us have 4 wheel drive so we can help though). It's not the easiest slip but 6 years on I think I can manage it OK. So see what you think when you get there and there's always QAB if you're rich and chicken!
Mike C

Hi folks,
As confirmed to Charles a while back, i am hopeing to join you but cannot confirm yet due to work. Am in US until Easter and will hopefully be able to confirm after that. If myself (and hopefully Cherie) can make it, we will stay in Holiday Inn. Not sure about boat though. May well bring the County Scout 5.45m Ribcraft.
Cheers,
Andy.

SLIPWAY
The Slipway shouldn't be too much trouble with 2WD car but anyway there should be enough 4x4s around to help out. The biggest problem (literally) is turning a 7.5m Boat on trailer & tow vehicle around once recovered. Last time some helpful folks in the appartments next door opened their gate to give us that vital extra few feet! Again with enough people around and a little bit of teamwork we should be able to overcome things!
Alan
