That is interesting.
Surely there right of way up the river and isn't anything below the high water mark common??
I think they would be on a sticky wicket insisting we couldn't go through. After all, we are going for a BBQ??
Pity the peace will be shattered by Mr Jagger

I dont know where you heard that from. Boat users cannot be stopped from using the river, but obviously the local byelaws are in place to control traffic.
I will be up their Saturday night on the lifeboat as the organisers require cover for the water. I may be on a smaller boat however as our larger boat is required in cowes for tasking by Coastguard.

I saw a police launch mooching arond the river this afternoon - looked like one of the ones from Portsmouth harbour. Are they anticipating trouble by the river or something?

just got back from the fest. Lots of yachty boats up the river by the main stage so I guess shouldn't be any problem.
Done a bit of bouncing to Groove Armada so off to bed now

We are going for a swim in Osbourne bay at noon and then hoping to catch the tide up to Newport from 2pm onwards, see everyone there. Viv is doing BBQ on the rib, I will be on stand by with the fire bucket

Just got back from there. We slept out last night and came in about midday.
We managed to see the whole lot Saturday night and still get out albeit by paddle for half a mile.
Muse were incredible. They reminded me of Queen with the way everything was delivered-even doing a Shadows cover (Apache) in their set. It was well worth the paddle.
The only thing that DID mar the day was a complete cretin in a small yacht who shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near anything sharper than a crayon causing some damage to my new boat which his insurance is going to have to sort and a total prick in a tatty grey pac22 who tried to steam through at 10 knots. I think he hit more than one boat.

Good report Nos. Sorry to hear about the problems. Of course, I am very jealous as I attended the very first one. Would have loved to have been there.

Long story but...
He came right across our bow at about 4 knots-within an inch or so-and picked up my anchor line (which was so short it was almost vertical) with his keel and dragged us along, breaking the handle on the tube it was tied to.
It was a miracle that I didn't get arrested. He'd already nearly T-boned us 3 times trying to turn round in a space that didn't exist.

Sounds scarey. Hope it all works out okay.
We had a little faux pas in Poole Harbour. My mate (Isn't it always my mate), ran over a locals fishing line whilst we were manouvering away from the Quay. I had to get the engine raised up and feed the fishing line along the bottom of the boat. It worked out alright in the end, probably just scared his fish away but seems like that we'd been doing that all day anyway.

Cretin should have had the sense to fish somewhere else when there's boats moving. There's plenty of other places than the quay to fish.

Five go to the Festival
We made it back from foreign parts in time to join Merlin's trusty crew of Nauti, Robin & Gill and a cooler box full of healthy snacks and lashings of gin....
Fantastic evening on the water. Met up with Mr. & Mrs. Pete 7 and family (and Jerry and clan) at The Folly. Heard from Slimtim in front of the stage and made it upriver in time for the Rolling Stones, bless their cotton socks and anti-wrinkle cream.
Top atmosphere but a hairy run downriver watching for the unlit craft
Sorry to read of Nos' experience. Think we spotted Tim M and a gaggle of students loitering near a bank and passed MHumphrey and Scary on our way to an excellent position.
Great festival. Great fireworks at the end! Got some Satisfaction!!!!

Matt sorry to hear about this, had the same thing happen 3 years ago when a yacht ran into the back of Old Spice. The insurance company asked me for quotes which is when I found companies like Halmatic and BA Peters in chichester (who eventually did the work), pleasantly expensive @ £6500. They even included £400 for collection and delivery of the boat, which they promptly sub contracted back to me
Its a long way down to Henshaws from were you are,
Pete

Thank you
to Paul & Kathleen for the ride on Merlin, and Robin & Jill for the bevies and snacks. Hopefully you have dried out after those two huge f***** waves which appeared from nowhere, would love to know what caused those.
Great evening and atmosphere, just a shame about all the unlit boats on the way back, espeailly the people in the little 2m tenders making their way back down the river unlit complete nuts!!
So Jimbo.......... what were you lot upto then? and who was the unfortunate sod that you lot were making walk backwards and forwards to the shoreline

I think the bloke on the Yacht was genuinely in fear for his life... I had hold of his boat and wasn't letting go and I think I could actually see the smoke coming out of Nos's ears...
What Nos didn't say was that the reason for matey getting so close to us was that he was heading straight for another yacht at the time...

We had a great evening.
Jimbo, Rich, Ju, my self, James and a girl that James is trying to impress cruised over there at about 6. Saw Merlin outside the folly then bumped into pete and family.
I had grand plans to have a BBQ using a "Kamping kitchen" on the rib by removing two of the jockey seats but Rich (aka old man savage) wasn't too keen, so in the end James and I swam over to the shore and bbq'd there. We foolishly forgot to take any matches, so ended up swimming across the Medina to various gin palaces trying to get a lighter. Eventually got the BBQ lit by which point I'd had enough of the swimming so job of transferring the food from the bbq to the boat was delegated to Rich.
After much eating and even more drinking we eventually headed back down river to the Folly for a swift beverage then back to Portsmouth.
I think there must have been a lot of idiots on the river last night. Having just arrived we were having a chat with Lurcher when a yacht pushed his way through the various boats that were tied up pushing several of them aside. On the way back home we had the radio on and some bloke was reporting to Solent GC that there was a boat ramming various other boat up river.
