I've already got an August trip planned for Falmouth - https://www.rib.net/forum/f18/tall-s...ust-85219.html
I was thinking about lunch out on the rock one day that week as the tides seem ok so August the 16th or 17th is now a date in my diary, so watch this space for something to appear on a Scilly run one of those days IF the weather behaves.
2nd June could work too for me, and the tides seem ok!!

Was wondering off hand, how much fuel is needed one way and is there places there to refuel. Sorry for asking these questions but never did a trip like this before. What is the furthest most point to launch from, is it near Lands End? Let me know as I am keen, as I have also just rebuilt my RIBs console and seating.

Technically Sennen Cove is the closest however Penzance would be best as you will have to park the car and trailer.
It looks like you have the same set up as myself 5m Tornado and 75hp Mariner 2 stroke and I also have a bit of work to do (lockdown has not helped as my rib is in storage) hope you make it.

Plenty of info in previous posts and Vids concerning Scillies trips done in the past on the Forum
Penzance is fav jump off for me (with any sort of time constraint) ....having done it from various ports ...near and far.

Scilly trip sounds great - we would love to join you - although my wife too, no longer camps - so a B and B would be welcomed.

It’s May next week and has anyone any fixed plans or anyone going to step up to be the leader?

Still interested in this would be running out of Plymouth so can join the Plymouth contingent
Have the plans firmed up at all? I am happy to go whenever it warms up a bit and we get settled weather like last weekend

Hi All
I’m also interested in joining a group, I launch out of Mylor and can be flexible about dates in June or July. Last minute for me would not be to much of a problem to fit with a weather window.
Having not done the trip before and for safety I would love to join a group crossing.
Happy to camp for a night or there and back.
Grant

Scillies Trip mid July
I am planning to go with a friend who knows the Scillies either 9 July or 16 July picking one of the weekends closer to the time dependent on the weather. Not sure whether we will go from Penzance, Falmouth or Newlyn yet. He will be leaving his rib there as he plans to holiday in August.
If anyone wants to join us they will be welcome.

What is the concern about the tides? I think the weather and wind will be more important.

Slack water and strength of tide is the concern I think....put a little wind into the mix and The sea whips up off the Cornish Coast.

You obviously haven’t studied the tidal atlas for the appropriate area

With regards to tides, it really depends if you just want to do a run to the Scilly's or spend some time there and explore. No problem running there on spring tides in the right weather conditions and correct route planning. I've sailed there on spring tides without issues and so have plenty of my friends. The advantage as we all should know is if you want to explore once there (and why wouldn't you??) that neap lows give more opportunity to explore and it does get shallow!!

Folks
I have the dates in my diary, with the August options looking best for me and I know a few are around the SW for the Tall ships already.
Just waiting to see the forecast closer to the time and make a call then.

17th or 18th of August if the weather behaves - I'll be leaving from Falmouth and think others will join in along the way.

I've taken the 18th and 19th August off work so will be out and about for tall ships, the idea of heading off to Isles of Scilly then sounds like a great idea weather permitted. Could to the Scilly Isles on the 18th camp overnight then come back for the tall ships leaving on the 19th?
