Kings Coronation - 11th Annual Pasty run weekender
With the King granting us an extra bank holiday in May (as if 2 wasn’t enough) it seems fitting that we’ll have an enjoyable long weekend on the South Coast.
2023 will see the 11th Annual Pasty Run again extended to 3 days with an outline plan of;
Saturday 6th May – 07.02 HW - 11.00 departure
A coastal cruise of 20 miles from Plymouth to Salcombe on a brownie hunt, the best brownie in the South West is to be found in the bakery, along with a superb Devon style pasty. The outward leg will see a coast hugging trip East from Plymouth, to the River Lyner, Burgh Island and Hope Cove before finding Salcombe. After a beverage break we’ll head back West to find Plymouth Yacht Haven for a well earned cup of tea.
However the fun doesn’t stop there. For those that fancy it, at 17.30 we’ll again depart the Breakwater Fort for a trip North, up the River Tamar to Calstock.
First we'll take a run over to the river Plym, just touching the mouth before taking in the sights of Plymouth Hoe and Smeatens Tower.
From there we'll follow the Tamar past Forder Bridge. Before heading past Babis Rd bridge, Royal Albert railway Bridge (one of Brunel's finest) and the Tamar road bridge followed by the Tamerton and Tavy bridges before pushing on up river we head towards Cotehele House and gardens, there are areas of open speed and restricted speed mooring areas. The wildlife on this section is usually superb and cameras are well recommended.
A leg stretch at Cotehele (if its open) is an option before we head up to the last bridge on this trip - Calstock viaduct. It's huge, it's stone, and it's lovely.
A short hop and we'll be at the final stop on this trip, Calstock. The pub will be open for snacks, a pint, coffee or large gin before we return to the open sea at the height of the tide.
Those launching at Saltash will drop away as the flotilla goes past the slipway and those staying overnight to see what Sunday brings motor onto their overnight beds or slipways.
Sunday 7th May – 07.41 HW 10.30 departure
Plymouth to Mevagissey, via the Eddystone lighthouse and returning via Fowey.
An open sea passage of around 30 NM for the outbound leg. Once at Mev we’ll stop long enough for tea and cakes before heading over to Fowey (6nm) where the first of the SWs Cornish pasties can be enjoyed.
The return trip of around 18nm will see the fleet pass Looe, Downderry and a number of other coastline villages and areas as we hug the coast before arriving back into Plymouth late afternoon.
Sunday 5th June – 08.20 HW 10.30 departure
A longer trip for those that would like to cruise a bit farther. Plymouth to Dartmouth where we will partake it what is the best for crab sandwich ever.
The day will also be used as the back up for the Fri /Sat if the weather misbehaves.
All trips departure from the Breakwater Fort.

Hi Andy,
That sound like a packed weekend.
I'm certainly up for some of this and happy to co-ordinate any wanting to join from the Torbay Dartmouth area.
Never been to Megavissy by RIB - starting from Brixham - that will be a good day run - will need to carry extra fuel!

Come join us in Plymouth for the Sunday night and fill up there
I've booked an air bnb for the two nights to keep things easy and will be talking to QAB closer to the time..

Maybe an option - last year it was a good thing we headed home from Fowey and didn't stop over in Plymouth - would have been stuck for a few days!

Hi Bob, I’m planning to book one of the Plymouth Premier Inns for Saturday and Sunday nights. Will meet up with Andy in Salcombe on the Saturday and run back to Plymouth with them. Can then head back this way with anybody who’s up for the Monday trip.
Will hopefully book the boat into QAB again. That worked really well last year.
Obviously all dependant on the weather gods smiling on us!

Hi Pete,
Yes considering the same- couple of options for me- either meet Andy & others Salcombe Sat, do Pasty Run and back to Brixham, Sun, or RV Eddystone Sun for the Pasty Run, stay over Sun night & run back to Brixham via Dartmouth Mon. either way I'll only be able to spend 1 night away.
Catch up soon.
Bob

I think im up for this, in Easdale the weekend before so the fuel budget will be well and truly blown but it would be rude not to come and play!
Will likely berth at QAB and hide in the van as per last year.

As I know there will be a number of us staying in Plymouth on the Saturday and possibly the Sunday nights more then happy to build in a social evening meal and / or breakfasts if those joining would fancy it??
Last year we ended up in Greek Tavern - any thoughts or preference this year?

I'm hoping / intending to join you again this year - but hopefully this time in Black Adder rather than Baby Blue. Like Miles, I'm up in Easdale the weekend before so it depends a bit on getting there and back safely 1st!.
I'd be sleeping abord so hopefully staying at QAB.
Assuming I do make it, my vote would be for the Greek again - it was great!

Hi - If I do make it down again this year in Black Adder, I'll have a spare seat available - won't be definite though until middle of the week before, and of course may be dependent on the weather!.
