I didn't make the original Portavadie trip, but have planned to do on weekend of 27/28th Sept. Got pals coming along etc, but called the marina today and the hotel is fully booked.

So - my question is - anyone know of somewhere ok to stay around that area, where i can leave RIB safely on the water overnight. We are leaving from Largs on the Friday lunchtime, returning Sunday afternoon. Would rather not overnight in Largs, but could as worst case...

Any ideas?

Just back from Largs-Portavadie trip. Was fantastic. From Largs up Kyles to Tighnabruaich, Kames, then stopped off for the Dolphin show off Ardlamont point. The Dophins were great, couldn't believe it - made our day.

Then up to Tarbert and finally into Portavadie. Thanks go to Matt for sorting out our mooring. Stayed overnight in one of the Studio rooms at the Hotel - very nice. Hit the bar a bit too hard though - wasn't one of our earliest mornings ever

Woke up to mirror flat seas, blue skies with some haze. Great trip to Arran and Loch Ranza per previous Rib-netter recommendation went for lunch at the Loch Ranza Hotel. Sat in the sun enjoying a burger, its not a bad life

Then back up round the Kyles and back to Largs to recover. Got to be a plan to do this as a group at some point, some great spots.

Take it the marina looked after you well in my absence? Glad you had a good time anyway and amazing weather for it! All the best Matt

Video of our return from Portavadie. Followed up on advice from Donald463 and Matt and SPR about where to go and what to look for. Was great weekend - thanks for the advice gents

Largs Portavadie - Sept 13 - YouTube

Dolphins were the highlight, funny thing was waiting for ages to try and spot them, gave up, started to drive away and they appeared playing in our wake. So we stopped and watched the show - nice

Glad to see you guys in my office - lol
Please be aware that there is a no wake restriction between the islands as the seabirds nest very close to the water on the islands and it is monitored by a local resident who will report boat names to Authorities if he spots you
Ps the Islands are also good for seals and there is a sculpture park on the Colintaive side during summer months
Pps the Colintaive hotel does excellent food also

Dec 27-29 Largs-Portavadie

I'm targeting doing a Largs-Portavadie trip from Friday 27th Dec (depart largs noon) returning on Sunday 29th Dec (out of water by 3pm). Trip to Arran or ?? on the Saturday if possible. Clearly high risk trip, as no idea what the weather gods will send. Have booked into the Portavadie Hotel, so worst case if the weather is truly awful will go by car instead.

Just an fyi in case anyone else wants to get oot and aboot between chrimbo and new years. Cheers.
