Loch Lomond trip Sun 28th Dec 08 ?
I am considering a trip up Loch Lomond on Sunday 28th December (subject to weather etc.).
The plan would be to leave the Public Slipway at Balloch (Duncan Mills) in time to reach Inversnaid for Lunch, have lunch at the Inversnaid Hotel and return to Balloch before it gets too dark.
Anyone fancy joining me? All welcome ( but normal RIBnet gathering/cruising philosophy applies).
I think that its about 1.5 hours from Balloch to Inversnaid (allowing for speed limits etc). So my plan would be to arrive at Balloch for 10am to allow a 10:30 departure. It will be getting dark by around 3:30pm so that should allow reasonable time for lunch and return.
My cruising speed is typically 15-20 knots depending on conditions, so other small/slow boats needn't worry about holding me up! Bigger - faster boats are of course welcome too - first to the bar has to get a round in .
Anyone who fancies it and hasn't registerred to use the Loch - will need to do so, its theoretically free but in practice will cost you about a tenner for the number plates etc. (Details here: http://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/...ault.asp?p=222). The slipway is free.

I cooked and ate him in public last year but it still didn't shut him up. Don't think a lack of salt will bother him much

I should have realised he is immortal! In which case Garf you are more than welcome - its probably just cold enough to keep the midges at bay and I don't think Nessie is holidaying in Loch Lomond this year ...

On grounds that my engine appears to run now, I'd be up for a bit of that......
...and if Nessie has any sense he'll be basking somewhere off a Carribean island right now!

Sounds good - I guess it will be around Christmas Eve before we have an accurate view of the forecast?

Im working, re-join the ship on the 27th ffs, but apart from that Andy and I have started stripping the boat down for inspection / repair before painting and other work (I.e theres no leg fitted to the boat)
I hope all involved have a great time and hope to meet up at some point in the new year

Another possibilty could be to go right to Ardlui, then head up the river falloch to the start of the old Inverarnan canal and walk the short distance to the Drovers Inn. It's supposed to be the oldest inn in Scotland, it's full of character and usually has a nice open fire going, and the food is very good. I've been up there quite a few times with the boat. I'm not sure if Inversnaid Hotel serves meals to non residents.

Kev, I nearly posted this suggestion myself last week. Inversnaid Hotel is apparently open to non residents (or was 2 years ago). I knew that the drovers was supposed to be accessible via the loch - but wasn't sure how shallow/marked etc it was - but if you know the way!!! So I am open to this. Long term forecast is crap - but yesterday it was for snow and the day before it was cold but crisp - so not believing it yet!

Motion Lotion?
I must admit I haven't managed to do a decent fuel consumption trial yet. If all goes to plan I'll know roughly how thirsty the new lump is by this time next week, but just in case I don't, anyone know if that garage at Tarbet is still open? - It's been a while since I last drove up that way.....

I would think that two tanks would do, say 35-45 ltrs, When I had a single 60 yam I could up and down the loch on about 40 ltrs. I think Ardlui Marina has fuel.

Thanks, that's useful to know.
Other thing I hope to test is my tacho.... Found a dodgy connection in the signal cable yesterday, so will hopefully have some RPM data by the weekend.
I'm not sure I couldn't run with a higher pitch, (Yam 55 was a 14" and bigger dia, now 1/2" down on dia, 1" down on pitch) so my fuel economy might not be as good as it could. It sounded too fast last weekend.
