My time diving has taught me that scared, panicking people will try to look "normal" for as long as possible, not so good if you're trying to attract attention.
To counter my own theory, I've also found a Pilothouse with a family aboard, firmly aground on a rocky shore. We rushed over to assist but the guy "in command" totally blanked us - just sat there and wouldn't speak. He was waiting for the RNLI who soon turned up. I think he had "given up", he didn't really even help the RNLI volunteer get a line aboard...
Good catch on the Kayakers, guys!

Last year I went past a group of people waving just off old harry in what I thought was a small powerboat, they looked very casual in the way they waved so I didnt think anything was wrong, I tied up to a mooring buoy in studland bay and something in my mind made me get my binnoculars out to have a better look at them, it wasnt a small powerboat it was a small sailing boat with no mast ! I went out to them and towed them back to studland beach, the weather was very windy, they hired the small boat and no radio and no phone. They were lucky .

and p.s. I did see Oscar and another boat going past Anvil Point, I was staying at the lighthouse for a couple of days. I could hear more the noise of their hulls slapping the water than their engines so it must have been rather rougth.

Yes: that would have been Half Cut and Grimalkin. Did you catch us on the outward or return trip? Sorry we didn't wave to you but with the concentration needed to helm in those conditions we forgot that you'd said you'd be at the lighthouse! Hope you had a good break!

To all the guys and girls who attended the sibfest I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the guidance and advice. As a second time out in my Aerotec what fantastic fun despite the extremely lumpy sea. Please click the above to get a taster.!
Sadly there was a downside as this has aggrevated an old back problem which I can not afford in my very physical job. Therefore sadly she has to go and I will look for something a little more sedate. See for sale section and ebay.
Thanks again guys.
Dek.

Wow, that video made it look rough, and that was the bit inside Portland Harbour, leaving the harbour it got worse! Fair play the to the smaller RIBs and SIBs, crossing that lot was gutsy, I hope it hasnt put anyone off.
I'm kicking myself that I forgot my camera, we would have got some awesome video off Anvil and Peveril Point. Still great to see what the conditions were like again, thanks for posting.
