Mont St. Michel August 28th/29th 2010
GJ0KYZ recently suggested saturday 28th for a day trip from Jersey down to Mont St. Michel.
But Erin can't do the saturday due to work so are people keen to have a go sunday?
As far as I'm aware I think its just us 3 boats unless anyone else is interested?
I was looking at doing the Guernsey Powerboat Association poker run which is on sunday but I'd take MstM over this (no offence Tony!)

We're certainly up for the Sunday, video camera is charged, and jackets now dry after our weekend outing. Just have to hope the weather settles a bit.

Having a closer look at the tides here, I'm not sure the tides on sunday would be big enough. I seem to remember GJOKYZ saying that a coefficient of 80 is required to get in?
Hopefully he'll be along soon to advise
At the moment there appears to be a bit of a weather window over saturday and sunday, although getting back up to a 5 on sunday afternoon. We'll see how this develops.

If it's Saturday or not at all, then I'll do Saturday. It just means that my 'hot water bottle' won't be able to come, because she's working. Perhaps I can try that navigators seat on Martini for size?

Hi guys,
we have several options so long as the weather is ok for the weekend. We can make brief visits on either Saturday or Sunday morning (Saturday preferred due to the slightly higher tide; if we arrive half an hour before high water we should have 40min ashore. Unfortunately, this is not enough time to visit the abbey or do much shopping. Or, we can visit on Saturday, dry out and spend the day at MSM and leave on the evening tide (it would mean a nighttime departure and trip home but I'd be well up for that). Or, we could visit Saturday morning and come home Sunday morning (either doss on the boats or camp ashore). Personally I'd like to spend the day at MSM but I'm happy to go with whatever others want to do.

I'd like to dry out for the day, need to get to the top of the abbey and walk back to shore and see the barrage. Either day is ok but probably got a preference for saturday, especially as there's going to be a bit more water.
GJ0KYZ, what time would we likely depart if we left on the evening tide?
Erin, more than welcome to join me, looks like I'm 2 pob at the mo so you'll have to take turns on the suicide seat

I normally manage to get away from the slipway half an hour before high tide, so about 20:50 Saturday evening I reckon.

Would be a long day then! I'm ok with a night passage, I can make 25knots in anything up to a mid F5 without seeing whats coming.

I'd also certainly like a bit of time there to have a mooch around, so drying out for the day would be my preferred option. If I decide to take La Frette to make it a proper 'invasion' I'll be best to meet you at the Minquiers NE or some such place en route. I have no problem with a night time return, it's only those pesky pot markers and lines that you have to gamble with.

I thought he had that thing Batman uses? The one where there is a 3D map generated by all the mobile phones in the world?

This is very frustrating, but again the weather is starting to looking doubtful for me. I'm not sure I'm up for a moderate sea and F4 winds on what should be a pleasure trip. Just have to hope September proves more conducive.

Slightly embarrasing since I started this thread but looks like I'm going to have to take a rain check
I've got an old friend over from Cumbria for the weekend, would be nice to get him out in the boat but if we go to MstM from 6ish am till 10pm then that's a big chunk of his weekend gone, not really fair.
If the weathers not too bad I'll probably go for a quick spin somewhere, maybe lunch in Carteret or Guern

It's clearly going to be too rough; the forecast's gotten worse since last night. Next suitable weekend will be 11/12 September. I may try go to Avranches earlier that week if anyone's interested.

My thoughts exactly. I was so bored today that I made a video:
