Mudeford/Christchurch Sunday 22nd July SIB/Small RIBs?

Hi all , like everyone I have been very frustrated by the recent dull, dismal, wet and windy weather so I’m looking forward to a nice July !

As part of July I will be around and about for the RNLI Mudeford funday on Sunday 22nd July . Its an ideal SIB/RIB venue as Christchurch Harbour is very shallow (to the point of putting off a lot of ‘big’ boats). Launching is easy at Sopers Lane car park or via a smaller gravel slipway on the Southside of the River . Launching is free with the only cost being parking the car ( and trailers can be left in the trailer park or locked to various trees in the car park) .

http://mudefordlifeboatfunday.org/mu...-funday-events

First person who can spot me in the pictures on the webpage I'll buy them lunch and a pint on the day ! ( I think I'm easiest to see in the 08 pics - but I had no grey hair then)

Its quite doable to launch in Poole and run along the beach then round Hengistbury head ( avoiding a rock ledge that sticks out a bit – but is not a huge problem at anything except very low water or if there is a big swell . Poole Lifeboat is going so you can follow that !) or launch at Lymington and come from the other direction - and then into the harbour to pull up the beach.

So I’m wondering if anyone may want to look on this as another SIB/small RIB meet – or just a general meet for a BBQ on the beach etc? No specific plans yet just putting it out there …..with plans to follow about tides and camping etc if it gets to it .

While the RNLI use it as a fundraising event there is no expectation involved - its just a good day on a nice beach.

Pete

hi peter looks good and i think we can do the date too!

christchurch is beautifull ,we scattered my father in laws ashes between here and the needles so it will always be a special place for us

we chartered the ferry as there was about 50 of us lol ...
he was always a big sailing man and i miss his advice on most things ,he`d have loved my little forray in sibbing

a bbq would be ace and the fact it`s a sunday makes it even more do able, meaning we take the monday off... if you can reccommend a campsite i`ll get on to booking

cheers rich

Huge amount of very happy memories for me there too . No idea about campsites as I lived a hundred yards from the water untill a year or so ago .

No restriction on BBQs on the beach or noise etc and very very family friendly, but can be busy at peak raft race time (best time to BBQ anyway) if its nice weather.

I'll have a scout about for campsites however ...and its easy for me to go check any out if anyone has any suggestions.

Pete

I'm liking the sound of this. Since I can't do the Alderney Floptilla due to other commitments I could do with an excuse to cruise round to Christchurch.

Anyone else thinking of going form Poole?

We are also hoping to be at the fun day on the 22nd, just booked into a berth at Lymington from the 18th as the J Class sailing boats are playing in the Solent from the 18th until the 21st, the fun day is on the 22nd, and we are helping with the Super Yacht regetta in Cowes from the 23rd to the 25th, some of these yachts are 60 metre plus, it then boat out of the water and report to Portland to help with the Olypmpic's beform heading back to the Solent to help with Cowes week.

Still tempted by Alderney - but can't see the weather being good enough for me, so this looks a safer option.

I'm sort of waiting to see if there will be a Saturday group going to Alderney, but it does seem a hell of a trek for just one night. So Christchurch or the J class boats or the return of the clipper bots look like decent Alternatives. Let's hope the weather is kind for all the events going on that weekend.

I'm still planning to be launching at Christchurch at about 8 - 8.30 - breakfast at Tuckton Tea Gardens then down the beach for a BBQ and sit in the sun. If its calm enough I may head out towards the Needles as the Alderney lot will be comeing back at some time ( I just need to read the threaed for thier return ETA)

I'll be around Sat and Sun. Get my boat back this afternoon - after about 3 months and just in time for the good weather. Result! Gutted it was too late for Alderney, but having had it re tubed, I need to give it a good thrashing before I try anything too adventurous. I'll do a thread all about my tube woes in due course.

I'm local so no idea on campsites - sorry.

Going to put it back on your old mooring tonight Peter

Campsites

Hi all
There are lots of campsites in the New Forest
If you go to Welcome to The Club - The Camping and Caravanning Club and put a search in for Christchurch
You dont have to be a member to use their campsites

Not sure who made it out, but out was a great day out there.nice and hot for once! Saw Aries out and about looking good. I had a great play in the wake of Poole lifeboat all along the bay and a really good display by the hunter including a couple of very very fast passes :-) .
