How about going to St Vaast for a late lunch on the Saturday (gates open 13.51 local) then heading on round to Cherbourg for hotels and open options for return time?

La Pizza in Cherbourg is very good, apart from pizza they do good moules & seafood. They have a room upstairs with harbour views which will take a decent size group. We've eaten there on a few diving trips & it's never failed us. It's a 5 minute walk from the marina.

I sailed to cherbourg during the summer - it's a nice place. Marina yacht club is ok, and great food but you may need to book in advance. Naval museum with titanic exhibition and old nuclear submarine is excellent. Good place for a day or two. We were never asked for passports or papers, but had them just in case.

Some good write ups, may be the one to go for, keep it simple seems to be the way forward

JK might have a good suggestion, if the weather plays ball could be a good lunch stop

Solent spence how far is the museum from the marina

Yep, I've booked a room with a garden view as well, though heavens knows why, I hate gardening
Guess I can slum it for one night

What a bunch of gaylords! "My room only has a view of the garden". My mate slept in a partially erected tent with no mattress in a wet sleeping bag on the Scillies . Is he hard? No, just bloody useless!!!! :-D

Landlord - you can see the submarine from the marina, but have to walk around the docks to get to it about 15 mins, so not far. Worth the walk, nuclear sub is really amazing to see and walk through, and the titanic section is impressive (it docked in Cherbourg on its way). Lots of other diving and subsea exhibits too.

Nope There used to be a Majestic wine warehouse in the Carrefour hypermarket by the harbour, you could buy good Aussie & South African wines there at French prices, but it closed a year or two back. There is a wine warehouse on the east side of the harbour next to a McDonalds iirc, but they only sell that French rubbish
There's a microbrewery pub/bar in the town centre just off the main square, (not far from La Pizza) can't remember what it's called off hand, but they had an excellent choice of French "real ale" & Belgian beers instead of the usual euro piss

Because of distances involved, Avocett and I have decided to make it a Two Day trip and Travel the day befor. We'll stay in St Vaast and meet up with you Guys on the Saturday in Cherbourg.
Hotel bookings aren't effected and we'll travel back with you Guy's on the Sunday
