New Year Cruise

Hi Chaps,

I'm spending the New Year in Abersoch N.W and would like to canvas opinion on the actual feasibility of getting a few like minded Ribsters together between Christmas and the New Year.

I say actual feasibility because we all know come the time we'll be somewhat stuffed with food and inebriated from the over indulgence of the wet stuff.

Regardless, I will be on the water sometime between Sat 27th and Tue 30th of December.

I recall the same time last year afforded a sea like glass and crystal blue skies.

I propose Sunday the 28th December. Launch at Pwhelli Marina around 10:00 with lunch at Barmouth, on to Aberyswerth and home via St Tudwalls Islands and Abersoch.

Sign up below.

Yeah, right! I think what you really mean is 'on the Bailey's', don't you Graeme?
I'm normally in Anglesey for that week so I'll definitely be joining you.

New Year Cruise

I certainly hope to be there, depending on cover at work I'll be in Wales with the family at Christmas untill the New Year. Son Sean is looking forward to another trip out at Abersoch.

That some poor effort at spelling Aberystwyth? If it is, call in at the marina and I'll meet you there.

ok, quite a while since last post in this thread I know, but you lot now have me interested in this cruise

I don't think I'm likely to drive the boat all the way up from Milford to Pwllheli since that's a one way trip of approx 100 miles according to the gps, and right on my cruising distance limit with current tank/fuel setup. This leaves the trailing option, so before I say a definate 'yes' to joining up I need to ask the locals a few q's

I assume Pwllheli marina has a boatyard that I can leave the boat in for a couple of nights, and is safe there? - MeMe, you mention launching at Pwllheli marina, is that slip good?... just checked boatlaunch now, and it says it's nice and concrete.
The other thing is accomodation.... any ideas on where to stay locally? - approx costs etc.. would be good

thanks,

-Alex

what I'm completely missing out here is Aberystwyth marina, which is far closer to me - if I launched here, would rv with the cruise in NW then, or even stay in Pwllheli marina the night with the boat after travelling up from aber the previous day or something.
I'm open to thoughts at this stage

narked, if I do this, you'd be more than welcome to come.

Alex, Pwllheli slip is good at all states. Boat storage seems to be available on a daily/nightly basis in a local compound. Bed only or B&B are very close to the Marina as are plenty of pubs.
Aberystwyth has a fuel pontoon so you could stop off here if cruising up. At that time of year even the crossing from there to Pwllheli could be in doubt.
If you can tow, Pwllheli is safest option as depending on wind direction launching can be done on either side of the Peninsula.

Narked, you could get the train round to Pwllheli if Alex towed up. The station is close to the Marina as you know.

Getting there......

Well chaps, it looks like we have a cruise in the making. As well as those mentioned above there's a couple of my pals from Abersoch who will join us in their "bath-tubs". Jono and Amy will I suppose crash the bash in something fast and exotic, so it looks like we're on. Let's pencil Sunday 28th December into our diaries and chat again a little closer to the time. In the meantime, the more the merrier.

Count us in, but we require a ride due to our present situation of NOT HAVING A RIB

ok, this sounds good.

If I drive upto Aber, and then boat across to Pwllheli, I'll only need to replenish fuel once at Pwllheli. By my reckonings (assuming reasonable weather!!), it's approx 30miles across from Aber to Pwllheli, which is probably just on or over an hr of travel time.... this is probably less than what it would be if I drove round
The only thing as you say, Ian, the 30mile crossing could be a bit dodgy if there's been some bad weather, or if there is some bad weather at the time. Although I trust the engine lots, I'd probably end up hugging the coast all the way around at which point I may as well drive anyway.

I'll look into this further at beginning of December

I'll be there, all being well, and will have room on Hawkeye for you Ian at least. (please bring passport for identification!!)

High water looks to be about noon so that should be good.

John

Caprice....

....not forgetting David Manning in (or "on" as some BoatMad authors like to comment about Ribs) Caprice. Will you be joining us David ? I'll be exchanging the Bailys for Champagne as it's the festive season. Somehow, I doubt there will be the need for ice !

How about going to up to Conway instead that way its only a couple of hours for me each way.
