Newquay to Lands End and back.

As of next week we will have an extra hour of daylight in the evenings so its time for all those South West Ribsters to blow the cobwebs and rat droppings off their boats, de-winterize those outboards and lets get some miles done in 2006.

I would love to see some more of the north coast so I'm suggesting a trip from Newquay down to Lands End - Its about 40 nMiles each way.

A 4X4 will be required for launch and recovery at Newquay as its a slipway onto the beach so I will need assistance from someone to launch. We will have to pick a day with an early to mid afternoon low tide as Newquay is tidal and this will give us a launch window in the morning and a recovery window when we get back early evening.

Something a bit different to start this years cruising off in style.

Who's up for it then and when are you available.

Roy
Im going to drag her out of bed this weekend and see what state shes in.

Mar and Par siad I can keep her on the driveway as the current location on the farm is less than ideal (55 min round trip time to collect with out preping)

Let me see what the situation is this weekend and Ill update you then...

Shaggy

I have 2 weeks off over Easter from the 10th April so ill be up for it any time during those two weeks. Either that or its the weekend (shaggy - do you have any time off - or are you only in if its a weekend)

Assuming 3m above datum allows access to Newquay harbour (this gives us a small amount of leeway) these are the days in April we can launch and recover at reasonable hours.

S 01 Launch 05:30-12:00 Recover 17:30-00:30
S 02 Launch 06:30-13:00 Recover 18:00-01:00

W 12 Launch 02:00-09:00 Recover 14:30-21:00
T 13 Launch 02:30-09:30 Recover 15:00-21:30
F 14 Launch 03:00-10:00 Recover 15:30-22:00
S 15 Launch 03:00-10:30 Recover 16:00-22:30
S 16 Launch 04:00-11:00 Recover 16:30-23:00
M 17 Launch 04:30-11:30 Recover 17:00-00:00
T 18 Launch 05:30-12:30 Recover 17:30-00:30
W 19 Launch 06:00-13:00 Recover 18:00-01:30
T 20 Launch 07:00-14:00 Recover 19:00-03:00
F 21 Launch 08:00-16:00 Recover 20:30-04:30

S 29 Launch 03:30-10:00 Recover 16:00-22:30
S 30 Launch 04:30-11:00 Recover 16:30-23:30

So now all we need is some people to be available and a bit of luck with the weather.

Can anyone interested in coming give me an idea of availability for the above dates in April.

Sounds good Roy,
we'll be open again by then and my boys are heading the bill at the Keay theatre on the 15th so it'll be manic for a day or 2 before, but I certainly won't rule it out, like Bob let me know if you decide on a date.
ps do you know if Mollers ever tracked down the barn he'd left his Rib in?

Ah, you've gotton yourself all confused there Kerns . It's bar not barns and that's where you Snozzle boys take your sheep for a nice evening out. You find 'em a little more compliant after a couple of Cinzanos.

Long range forecast shows strong westerlies for next weekend so unless those forecasts are badly wrong (which they could be) I think the first and second of april are out.

The mega long range forecast shows a fantastic day with light easterlies for the following weekend 8th / 9th. But the tide would force us to do a very early launch at newquay (ie before 8am)

Whats other peoples feelings on getting to newquay for a launch at that time in the morning.

Just Spoken to the Harbour Master at Newquay.

Apparently the harbour is accessible own to 2m above datum so that greatly extends the days that we can launch.

He also told me that he is away on holiday the weekend of the 8th / 9th so launching and trailer storage will be free (usually £5 each).

According to the long long range forecast they still have good weather that weekend so unless the weather forecast changes for the worst - I think that this will be a good time to go.

Who's in ???

Shaggy - did you sort out your boat this weekend ?
Alice - will you be in Cornwall with a boat that weekend
Kernow - how are you fixed for that weekend ?
Randski - I know you'll find the time
Ian Parkes - your still invited on Voyager let me know
Gingercoastie - Where are you... I know your boat is moored at falmouth but you are welcome on my boat.

4 X 4 will be required to launch as the harbour is basically a beach. So I need assistance there - so I cant do this trip without at least one of you 4 X 4 owners coming too.
