How about an Eastwards run to Salcombe - c.18 miles each way?
We could time entry to Salcombe after low tide with a bit of thought.
Just an idea - would be nice to for the cruise to go ahead.
I'm not sure what culinary treat Salcacombe has in store- but I'm sure we could find something?

A pasty is not a pasty unless its from Cornwall so you'll need to re-think the name

You could always try Fowey, no restriction on tides and easy entrance.

Or nudge onto the beach (sand) and let the rising tide take us off?
Never been Salcombe way so happy to give it a go if it's easier / safer or less effort due to my inept web site reading

Andy
I have never been to Salcombe either, or have i
Fowey is also a good run, so that would sort the cornish pastie problem out.
If you or anyone else is worried about fuel, i have room to carry for you, i have some fuel cans if required, but you will have to supply your own fuel.

That's a great offer - thank you. At 25nm one way it's on the limit of my endurance with 55L on board!
I'm happy either way, Fowey (or a beach landing at Looe) for a Pasty or Plan B to Salcombe for a Cream Tea.
I'm happy to go with the majority - we will be going somewhere at 12 that's for sure

I'm happy with either Fowey or Salcombe.
Would be worth checking low water Salcombe Sat afternoon - haven't got this year's tide tables yet - as entry over the bar at low water is probably best avoided.
I guess running back from Fowey we'd benefit more from flooding tidal stream & preavailing wind - returing from Salcombe we'd be likely to be against wind & tide.
Personally I'm not too keen on beaching at Looe & floating off later.
I'll have capacity to carry some spare fuel cans should anyone need.
Will now have 2 spare seats as well (one daughter has arm in plaster).

Easter Pasty Run
Having thrown a spanner in the works, I'll now give you another tuppence worth.
Distances to Fowey and Salcombe are identical, give or take, at 24 miles. ETA at Salcombe would be dead low water. No problem in calm conditions or moderate wind around North, otherwise forget it.
Another alternative is Polperro. There are 4 visitor's buoys in the outer entrance with minimum 1.0 metre. At low water there is access to the East pier but I am not sure if you can climb it from the water. A phone call to the harbourmaster will confirm. Only possible problem is that some yachties might be tied up on these buoys for the Easter weekend. We could always ring the H/M on the day to check and failing that continue on to Fowey where, as previously said, access is available in virtually all conditions.
What do you all think?

Polperro is a lovely stop over and well worth the run out.
I did the same trip a couple of years ago in a 24 footer. Planned trip was Plymouth to Polperro and stay on the visitors buoys the night. We had a lovely run across but on arrival there was only one buoy available and it was the furthest out. Not a major problem but too rolley for a night in a 24' boat. We stayed for an hour and untied and went to Fowey. Lovely run along the coast and not much further to travel. Spent 2 nights at Fowey on a visitors buoy.
You might find the buoys are taken by local vessels at Polperro at low water waiting for the tide to re enter the harbour. So best have your back up plan ready.
Fowey is a great bolt hole with plenty of visitors buoys and a water taxi.
Having done this trip before, for the small extra distance, if weather permits, I would certainly make Fowey plan A
As Lakeland said, if tides are correct, you could shoot down on the last of the ebb and then back on the flood. Sounds like a lovely run our

Makes sense to me, Polperro for a pasty - Polperro Bakery in Polperro, Cornwall for Cornish Cream Teas
With one at Fowey as a back up
And the dive shop at Bovisands if the weather is nasty

I realy don't think the sand bar at Salcombe will be an issue, i have never had a problem there, well just one, towing a yacht in that had a dead engine, they recon they felt the keel touch the bottom, funny i didn't feel a thing.

Lets see what the weather is like on the day then and take advice from those coming that know teh patch ( I don't), East for Cream Teas, West for Pasties - either is a winner
Shame about Looe but as a run it'll happen some when soon.
With A diverburger at Bovisands after a run around the breakwater as a bad weather back up something will be fun

I'd vote for Fowey -come back with tide & prevailing wind behind - but only if it's nice!!

Lets see what the weather does and who fancies where, Polperro, Fowey or Salcombe seem to be the options.
