Queen Mary 2

BBC anounced last night that the new liner Queen Mary 2 currently being built in St Naz is due in Southampton on Boxing Day, presumably chosen for max publicity when everyone has had enough Christmas Pudding.

Feel for those involved in the recent accident though.

Couldn't agree more Pete. Throws a huge shadow over the whole thing. Very tragic.

That accident was terrible, and the news archives make very grim reading.

Anyway, the planning for the arrival can be followed here: Cunard Website
and here: Southampton Port Information although it looks like she's due into her berth at 06:30

Did you go out, Riva?

We would definitely have been out but we're away for Xmas down in deep darkest Devon.

Rumour has it that the jackeens were snoozing off a big christmas dinner on their sofa. We would have whipped them into action if we had been around

yes went from lee slip way, loads of boats a real sight as the qm2 got to the fire fighting tugs up southampton. l just had to go through the arc of water to test the dry suit very busy left it at that point not room to move , the water was full of front garden move once a year things, and i thought that was my que to leve them to crash into some one else rather than me

Hi Riva,

Glad you had a good time. Wasn't happy with the conditions out there
for a recovery in the late afternoon at Lee. Did you recover OK at lee with your boat or Ski can be a nightmare with a south westerly.

Not that there's anything wrong with keeping the boat in the front garden!

took the ski, to recover @ lee just run up beach try to get out of the water by a couple of feet so as not to get buffatted, then just reverse on the shingle (4wd) ski or rib its easy and safe no bashing the trailer , great thing keel bands p.s. wasnt haveing a downer on front garden boats, unless its a £20 shetland that they keep hens in.

Riva,

I can understand running up the beach on a Ski, but you do it with your rib (assuming you have on). I wouldn't fancy running up the shingle - surely make a mess of the gelcoat. Have done it on sand no problem.

So if you have a keel guard - is it a Gemini then ???

Paul

Do you know Brett J skis at lee ???

Anybody got any photos of the arrival of the QM2?
I saw all your ribs on TV and also photos of your boats spread across the front of the Dailys-so someone must have the odd snap or two?

Hi

Good Trip back thanks, good to meet you and your wife in Cowes today.

Don't know anything about the Paint Ball Gig, whens this happening?

Weather permitting we are out on Saturday, more than likely down to see the QM2 again, truly amazing liner apart from the stern profile which looks like the builders forgot the stern had to be added!!!! followed by a few pints in Cowes. When R U out again.

Kevin

Is that us? We are having such a good time we might stay here a bit longer! I've just been introduced to one of Whiteshoes' friends called Stella so you'll get no sense out of me now

Although I'd really like to be out to see the QM2 off...
