Ramsgate

During the summer time, I would like to do some channel crossings (from Zeebrugge or Nieuwpoort to Ramsgate and back). is there anything special to see / to go around Ramsgate.

When I was there two weeks ago there was a particularly nice diesel slick in the marina and 4 boy racers racing round the one way system, oh and the chip shop owner had an alsation behind the counter, not sure if that helps or not?

Ramsgate is a good jumping off place for us lot xssing the channel; a bit rough and ready

why dont you go to Harwich and explore the harbours and rivers around there- the Orwell Deben Blackwater etc, There are lots of places to visit.

Oostende to Harwich entrance is approx 77 miles Nieweport not much difference

no particular nav hazards in a RIB on a reasonable day but of course sand banks on both sides which can cut up rough in a blow

Send a message via MSN to Jon Brooks
Loads to see and do there.
Great pubs, places to eat etc

The locals are nice too, I should know I am one of them!!
Comes highly recomended by many boating mags as a place to visit.

Best regards

Thank's Phil. Harwich sounds like a good idea! Are those sandbanks well indicated on a GPS map and is there a petrol station in the marina?

A friend told me that it's worth to visit the sand-fords (http://www.offshore-radio.de/fleet/shivering.htm) if i go to Ramsgate. Has someone been there before?

I took it off this site -I posted a couple of years ago;if you save it to your computer you should be able to increase but not sure how to increase resolution

the banks would be shown on any decent electronic chart; even in a rib you want to be careful at low water.I would get a paper chart as well

there is petrol on the Orwell at Levington Marina -expensive.Alternative would be a visit to Foxes further up the river and walk to the nearby petrol station .

take a look at www.hha.co.uk -loads of info and a downloadable chart /map
