Red Bull Air Race, London - weekend 28/29 July 2007

Anybody planning to go? We we were thinking of the Sunday, Launch from Putney and wander down the Thames to Bugsby's Reach. Port Of London website has river closure times. Is there anywhere better to launch downstream?

Poplar Rowing Club or Bargehouse Lane at Woolwich may be possibilities but do a Forum search because you may need a 4X4 , and don't under-estimate the cross tides at launch & recovery . If in doubt , please ask again.

Looks fun! More details here: www.redbullairrace.com

The Port of London Authority Notice to Mariners says "Because of the nature of the activity, no craft, unless part of the Red Bull Safety Team will be permitted to remain within the exclusion zones whilst flying is taking place."

However, the chart of the exclusion zone shows a fair bit of space on the river to the north of the exclusion zone which might be a good place to head for.

HW in the race areas is around 1330 on Saturday, 1400 on Sunday, which should work OK for finding somewhere to moor up to.

Temporary Airstrip & "Tented City"

The tarmac & painting for the airstrip went down last week , and the " Hangers " are going up now . It's quite a short strip , with a rather large building almost exactly at one end Not really a great aeronautics fan . but any excuse to get out on the water ! The weekend will be sunny won't it ?

This site is due north of the City Airport . They don't fly on Sunday but care will be needed on Saturday !
