Could we not set up a members poll that list the venue options and let the members vote?

Are you volunteering to organise it?

I can do, but I'm not sure that it would actually be of any great benefit.
There's no guarantee that anyone will be prepared to organise anything at the most favoured location, and the results will probably have little semblance to the actual attendance. It may result in only one event, where there could quite feasably have been two or three.
Anyway a couple of people have asked for it now, so I will set one up. What options do you want in the poll? Do you want to vote on it?
John

Poll:
I guess the two main ones are:
1. Location.
2. Time of year (month).
With further catagories of what might happen at such an event.

Should you also ask if it is better to have one or two (or more) events? Is there a risk that this would "dilute" the effects of both? One big event might get a better turnout.
How about the duration - weekend, long weekend, week ? etc

I recon a long weekend would suit most, say Thursday to Sunday. I do agree though that an even like RIBEX or SBS would be a good oppertunity to combine a more formal RIBnet meet and another function and would appeal more to those traveling from further away destinations. Bogi, Eupa, Rene and the like.
The Solent (although pretty boring for some) is the best place for a large scale meet like this without a dought.
I would like to point out though that more (organised (not official)) Cruises be organised thoughout the year, like a weekend in Scotland, Wales, the East coast and Cornwall/Devon perhaps. These would almost certainly be smaller and less formal, a good chance for RIBnutters from all over the country to meet one another. Mabe these should be organised by local RIBbers?

I think you are right - it is all down to someone being able to organise things at the venue in question!!!

Poll Questions suggestions:
Do you want a RIBnet Meet in 2006?
When? (Give viable options)
Venue (Give 2 options - looks like SW (Mumbles) or Scot?)
How Long? Week/Long Weekend
Would you be prepared to assist in the organisation? (in either chosen venue)
Shall we still have a meet @ RIBEX anyway?

A simpler poll might be better ? e.g.
Where should the RIBnet Conference be in 2006?
Cowes
Inverkip
South Wales
and time of year
May
June
After that volunteer 'helpers' could get stuck in to do the necessary bookings etc.

Codders, are you offering to organise the South West conference then, as with all your infinite knowledge it should be a good one. Perhaps you could organise some off roading fun as well for us all.

As to offroading fun remember Labour BAN everything - new bill has been approved in Parliament - now going through Lords which will ban Green laning altogether!!!

OK guys so we have two possible locations
1/ Inverkip
2/ South Wales
There are a few members based at Inverkip - would you guys undertake to organise the conference. as for the dates then of course select the best dates which suits yourselves and then see what the reaction will be from the forum. There is no other way
I can't see any support from any SW members so no point hanging on only lets get on with it.
Cowes is out of the question and specially at the time of Ribex. Anyway there will be a get together cos many of you will come to the show by rib.
I for one will be an exhibitor and at the last Cowes conference only missed out on the fun so not keen on both events at the same time
May I also suggest that if nothing can be agreed by early January 2006 then best forget about the whole thing and stick to locally organised events.
like Littlehampton Cruise ect . We will start a thread on this in January

Hello Andre,
It really depends where you are thinking about as SW..... ie Swansea, Tenby, Milford, St Davids, Fishguard etc... - it's quite a large space.
There's plenty of cruising ground locally, pubs on the river available at certain tides, the islands, jack sound, ramsey sound etc... there are also plenty of places to stay around here too.
Whilst I'd probably try to avoid organisation (purely cos I'm rubbish at that kind of thing) getting B&B / Hotel numbers, recomendations of places to eat, places to visit on water etc... I can get you local info on.
For some local port information @ Milford, goto our well overdue for overhauling recreation site - http://recreation.mhpa.co.uk/index.htm
4th largest port in the uk, and no speed limits until you get a long way up river - not bad really.

I think the Milford/pembroke area would be better for this sort of thing - lovely cruising ground and nothing like the tidal probs - it goes out miles in Swansea although there is a good slip that can be used at all states of tide.
Swansea is miles ahead in nightlife etc if you like it wild though!!!

Well got some attention!
Just for the record. I am only the thread starter not an organizer of the RibNet 2006 conference as this must be done by local members. Different if this was to be in LAmpton but it won't be. We will enjoy a cruise and are hopeful that the weather will be better then this year and that more members will participate
From the last posts I can see that SW sounds interesting. Also it is a vast area so local members input is essential.
