RibNet conference 2006

< Edit: For a bit of background about the RIBnet Conference, have a look at the FAQ. It has now morphed into the RIBnet RIB Raid! JK >

Guys I guess now is the time to start this subject and begin to throw ideas around

1) Are we going to have a conference in 2006, Do we want a conference?

2) If yes where and when

3) Do we want a conference/gathering say in the Midlands (close enough for most of us) or somewhere on the coast so we can all bring our toys to play

4) If on the coast then where. where is the best location for all ?

My vote is yes lets have a conference in 2006

Location: why not Inverkip, Scotland,

Time: April, May of June (not to clash with Ribex 12-14 May)

Whichever location is selected then of course the local members will have to take on certain responsibilities.

Andre

PS:This thread could be a long one

is there any way jk can look at the stats and see where might be a central place for best turnout, would be good to be a place where folks can bring boats and get out on the water for some fun.

Why should that matter - surely the location should be picked on its merits as a venue - not on how many people live close to it.

Scotland sounds great - but a f***ing long way for me

Well the midlands seems popular with most companies
Did a RYA one in Coventry the other month and just arrived at another dealer conf just out side Coventry at a place called Meridan, very nice here!

Be nice to have some guest speakers, maybe, on various related subjects.

Just a thought

i guess my view is that if you pick scotland then not many folks will trek up there, if you pick a central place where it is easy for a lot of folks to get to then you have the chance at a better attendance rate....thats all

if the event gets a good turnout then it is likely to be more successful, a lot of folks are not willing to travel far......

Hugh

well said and could not agree more. I said Inverkip cos together with Mike C we towed a rib there this September and from M4/M25 it took us 9 hours. This will give some a good idea of the timing. However a great place for ribbing once you get there.

That was just an idea of a location and I am sure there are many more good places and that is why we need a discussion. I do not think it should be the South Coast

What's wrong with Ribex? Quite a few will be there anyway and a lot of people have thier boats based within reach by water - I for one would like it to be somewhere on the water anyway where people can bring thier boats and do demos - sort of like a private boat show!

I realise I'm biased as a manufacturer - but I am thinking of the customers here as well!

It really depends whether we want to get together mainly for boating or mainly for meeting.
If its meeting, then the Midlands sure....
If its boating and merry making with a bit of meeting, Inverkip is great cos (almost) no matter what the weather it should be possible to do some boating. Several directions to go in from there.... and the Inverkip Hotel is excellent, (though not very big). Great Marina there too.

Probably vote for there myself.....

Except that Andre and I made a promise at Nasher's Do that if the 2006 Conference was held in Scotland, we would wear KILTS - hope its not windy!

The Midlands is nice!

If it was Scotland I would rearrange my diary to suit. If its down south I might still be interested. If it is up here I would be willing to contribute to organisation where possible. Probably best to establish the aim/purpose first. I would have thought it needs to involve going on the water though...

Scotland or Belgium sound good!

Not averse to the Midlands.

Happy to go with the flow!

Prefer June as we are Southern Wusses

Inverkip would be great, preferably May or June as I should have my new boat by then. Theres not much accomodation at Inverkip other than the Hotel and the Forresters B&B, however theres loads near by. Regardless of the weather you can always get out and about either up the coast into the sea lochs or down around the islands.

Just had a look at maps.google.com, Inverkip UK looks like a very nice place to go ribbing, then I zoomed out.

OUCH

I seems to be a pretty long tow this time. Couldn't you guys find a place a little closer to Denmark.

What about Poland, we have seen a lot off nice pictures from there ( I do remember that strange lifting device where you drive your boat onto some kind off railway wagon)

Belgium, France, Southern part off UK, Ribes again

If we choose Ribex I will only have to drive for 16 hours to get there ( If I'm speeding) 1.300 Km.

Andy

Can you please support your post with more information like what type of accomodation, cost, distance from the marina. Could a meeting room be made available, places to eat, ect ect ect
Having spent a week in Inverkip in September I do not need convincing but many others do

How many members are from your area? If Inverkip selected can we count on the Scottish members to make all necessary arrangement, ect, ect, ect
