Ribsters & RIBnet Broads Crooooze 8th, 9th & 10th July
< Edit: Dates set for 8, 9, 10 July. JK >
Would anyone on here be interested in a nice cruise along the broads (sticking mostly to the speedlimit)
A good starting place is Burgh St Peter at Waveney River Centre. Lovely place for a meal there is a shop and a slipway along with the pub and plenty of moorings and space to leave the trailer and vehicle for the day also fairly secure, There are Caravans here for hire and also Tents. I've spoke to them and there is the possibility of a discount.
Its halfway between Oulton broad (to sea) and Beccles (in land) and also easy to get to somerleyton.
There are ski lanes near by for water skiing. You would need a minimum of a 7 day licence to use your boat on the broads. for more details see Broads Authority
The Best time would be around July/August.
My self and Bogi B went along to visit today and found the place in chaos. Building work everywhere! New shiplift, and other associated buildings around the place. obviously to be finished before summer so its going to be better than I thought.
The slipway is concrete and goes to be about half a metre deep at low tide then drops off at the end and I couldnt see how deep. but shouldnt be much There is a fair sized marina with also river front moorings available fairly cheap for a night.
the plan is provisionally as follows (open to change):
Day 1: Cruise from Burgh st Peter to Somerleyton for a BBQ
Day 2: Cruise from Burgh st Peter to Oulton Broad, Then through the Lock to lake lothing into the north sea and onto Great yarmouth/Scroby sands to see the seals.
Day 3 (Sunday): Cruise to Oulton Broad to possibly meet with the South Broads Lifeboat.
Interested:

sounds good
Ay up Scott,
Count us in mate dates permitting. We could also consider doing Breydon water, topside of Gt. Yarmouth. As far as im aware there aint no speed limit. (never used to be ). The only offputing thing is leaving a rib tied up and watching the hire boats use it as target practice . Used to happen a lot to me dad when he had his cruiser at brooms yard.
But sounds good. Get some good cruising in up to scrooby sands.
Cheers
Martin

Sounds good, subject to dates. Am I correct in thinking there are some good pubs around the Broads?

Blimey, thats home that is. My folks live a mile or so from the river centre and dad keeps his yacht in the marina.
I understand there is a lot of redevelopment taking place after several years of the previous owners letting the place fall apart. It should be pretty good when they've finished and if they renovated the interior of the pub which is the same as when I started going there as a kid in the 1970's then all the better! I'm visiting home next week and if its open may well sample their beer - all in the spirit of investigation for ribnet of course
Its a nice spot with good facilities though and a good place to base a cruise at. Bear in mind (sure you know this anyway) that to use the waterski speedlimit exemption you need to be member of a waterski club and actually skiiing rather than a visitor in a rib wanting some fun. Speed limit is mainly 5 or 6mph so whilst its fun to explore it isn't going to be a high speed ribbing weekend. No speed limit on Breydon though but that is a good 3-4 hrs away at 6mph.
Have fun anyway.
Alan

I'd possibly not be able to make it to Breydon by sea (3m SIB going into yarmouth harbour = )
Infact i've never even used my SIB yet. im being brave to consider taking it to the Scroobys (if i dont leave it at the lifeboat station in Oulton Broad)
Its also only got 60 Litres of fuel on board
I have a date in mind 8th 9th & 10th July.

Wasnt sure on that as it doesnt apply to us on the lifeboat. we can use it for speed any time. Speed isnt everything
King_C i might need a bit of Ballast on my SIB if you've got your own gear.
Please note: I will also be the slow one. I only have a 15hp at the moment, unless someone wants to lend me a 25hp for the weekend.

Wud be gr8 fun around the broads as it doesnt create wash so no tell tale signs of how fast ur goin ....cept 4the rather loud engine!
Wot we need is a hovercraft....then nobody cud stop us speeding as wed jus go up the nearest bank and escape!
They hav radar speed guns on the broads? I hav a snooper...dont c y it wudnt work on the water aswell?

Sounding more attractive by the second. We'll check the social calendar We might only be able to join for a Saturday/Sunday or both due to work commitments.

Count me in.
Can't do the 8th - my last EVER day at school ( ) followed by ball, so will probably not be in a very fit state the next day!
If people fancied exploring the Northern Broads (Yare/Wensum) we could use my boathouse - we have a slipway and a BBQ, with loads of secure parking. Scott: I'm sure someone could give you a lift!
Failing that, if we head along the Bure we can stop for a BBQ at Salhouse Broad (i'm running a kiosk there this summer which will do BBQ hire) or an ice-cream at Cockshoot Broad from my ice-cream trailer!
Anyway, sounds like fun.
