anyone else thinking of going along but doesn't really want to do anything too adventurous, I'm happy to just have a bit of a blast with the rest then go for a run through the Straits maybe up to Puffin Island if it's a nice day, then meet up again in Fu's for some great grub n a few pints, I'm not up to getting battered on a long cruise if it's anything but flat calm

Hi Ian, that boat should be fine as I think Chris Caton (will need to check) is doing the mini cruise on his refurbished SR4 with a 50Hp Honda on it. Check out his build thread as its very smart

Hi Ian, as Whackywoody said, your SR4 should be fine to do whatever you wanted to do, either the whole trip to Conwy and round Angelsey or just the Menai like I'm doing, it's me that's not up to the whole trip not the SR4! I guess your only limiting factor is how much fuel you can carry, it's approx 85 miles round Angelsey, and probably add another 20 miles over to Conwy and back to Puffin Island, there is fuel at Conwy Mariner if you wanted to top up but not sure how practical that would be on the day if other ribs wanted to do the same, could be a little hectic. there's no where to buy fuel around the island, but plenty of places to pull in n top up if you can carry spare fuel. should be a good day out whatever you decided to do, as long as we get some decent weather

Hi All
My plans are to go to Conway if the weather is good. A trip round Anglesey as well is far too ambitious having experienced the ride last year with Phil and Gill in their larger Humber. A great experience though. I cannot compete with the speed of the larger ribs and will undoubtedly be left behind. A steady run over to Conway and a return back down the Straits will be 30 to 40 miles and will still be a really fun day out.

hi Nick, the run over to Conwy from Puffin Island is a good stretch and good fun, we've been over a few times now, usually in good weather as Jayne gives me the "stare" if it's anything but flat calm, but well worth the effort to see Conwy Castle from the water

I'll be playing it by ear. If the weather is kind then we should be able to do the whole trip with a full load of fuel and couple of jerries on standby. If its rough then we'd have been up for the basic round trip but the detour to Conwy puts it beyond out fuel range I think. We have accom for the full weekend so will probably keep our powder dry and stick to the Strait jaunt.
As for a 4m: despite Simsy's deeds of daring-do last year I think any sort of chop would be a big ask in a 4m even without the Conway detour. There will be tons of boats around though doing various things so I'd say "come along and just play it by ear".

I'll be joining you on the run to Conwy too. The Leader of the Opposition will be with me and having been round the island many times in the past, albeit using sticks and string, she has expressed a preference.
Personally, I could shoot the Editor of PBR magazine because if he hadn't published the pics of Conwy in the last edition, and detailed the fun to be had 'upriver', she'd still think Conwy was not worth bothering with and I'd be blasting round Anglesey!

Dont hold me to this..but I've been looking at towing my little 4m RIB up for a go along the straight at a slower pace than the 40+knts we flew up it in AJs boat last year.
If the weather is flat flat calm I'd even consider trying the entire run - but if its not the mini cruise could work. I'm just getting my head around the six hour drive each way ( ish)

if I was fit enough n it was calm enough I'd be up for the full cruise in our SR4, but I'm not gonna push meself like I did last season, slow n steady this year, but that don't mean we can't have a good day out, there's loads to see n do around the Straits, Puffin Island, n if its fit a blast over to Pilots Cove is a must do
