Exactly, this was a cruise for a few boats to go round britain, because they always wanted to And we did just that but instead of racing past everything we did stop to admire the country we live in
It was the best cruise ever

You're right - after a few days (well after Inverness actually, as up until then it was either so flat that 28 Kts was not a problem for the smaller boats, it was foggy so we all did much less or rough enough that again we all slowed down) - we tended to settle into a routine where the boats that wanted a lower cruising speed left a bit earlier in the morning, and the bigger ones (usually just Black Hawk and Blue Ray) ha a bit of a lie in or longer breakfast We generally caught the 1st group up just after they has re-fuelled at lunch time. This worked well - especially for the fuelling stops as we would have had to wait around anyway, and it meant that the early boats could again get a head start, and knew that if there were any problems, we weren't far behind.
Oh - and Gilles wasn't the smallest boat - we had Scrambled with us for most of the route - a family of 4 in their 6m rib.

On the targa problems I don't think it was the engines but more the electronics, the volvos are always having problems with sensors and that in turn shuts the engine down, with Andre it was just very bad luck that the engine let go like it did.
KISS is the rule and with both petrol and derv, good rigging makes the boat more reliable, no dangling wires of any kind, things where possible mounted on rubber pads, pull up all the wires and reroute them higher on the diesels, blah blah blah!, I'm going for a bath

Out of interest, can someone tell me exactly, how many hours it took to go through the Caledonian-from time/day of entry until exit at Inverness?
Just nosing......

Got in the locks at fort William at 08:00 after doing the paperwork and buying the licence. Got to the top of the locks at lock ness on the first day.
The second day we took the second drop of the day at 11 ish down onto lock ness, we only just made it to Inverness before the locks closed that day.
Some say that they have done it in a day, but that can't be if it's busy or if the locks aren't ready for you and lifting or dropping in the direction that you want to go...

you forgot the speeding part for 1 Day part - I know it has been done, it helps if you have a British waterway official on board and they radio ahead - but two days I believe is the normal.
I took the road option, Dad brought my trailer to Inverness after launching at Corpach, I was doing safety cover for the week along the canal/lochs for traditional sailing/rowing boats.
