You might have noticed, there's been no interest in anyone joining me for this cruise and there's no way I can afford to blow 1200 quid of my own money on fuel at the mo, so that's me out I'm afraid
On the plus side it's due to blow 5 knots all weekend so I should get a nice little jaunt in to France, it'll be pastis rather than pasties for me

I wouldn't contemplate taking a 2 year old on this trip, but you know your family and their capabilities better than I do.
Bear in mind that you're quite exposed off the back of the island and don't have any easy or nearby options if things get uncomfortable. The overalls off St Catherine's Point can be quite exciting, as can the Needles. It's all perfectly doable, and nothing particularly challenging, but can be a hard slog even for an adult crew.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but I'd hate for you to be half way round with a miserable child, wishing you'd never started.

We went to Ventnor last year with Trevor G and AJ, the weather was great and we were wearing T-shirts. I put Mrs W and my 5 and 6 year olds on Trevors 8.6m rib as I never would have attempted it in my 5.85m with the kids.
My 7 year old wants to come around the Island but instead I have arranged a day out for them and we'll get out in the boat later in the week instead.
Going ribbing with my kids is great but only in the right conditions, so to be honest if it were me I would be looking for a baby sitter for the day just incase the weather kicks up a bit and use the day as a 'date' with your other half
The toughest part of this trip will be around the back of the island with nowhere to stop.
One parent to another, I hope this helps

Out in the north Solent on a nice day I think can be fine with young ones, but once you get past Bembridge and the tide is ripping on some of the points it can be quite lumpy, and then heading round to Ventnor on the South of the island is very exposed. I'm not a parent but think 4+ hours including all the stop offs and the lumpy bits maybe a bit much.
One thought there is a lovely technohull with cabin going round why don't all the kids get locked in there it would be like a bouncy castle for them and keep them occupied

I am gutted, but it looks like I am not going to be able to make it. I spent some time abroad recently, and I have come back with some sort of infection, which has been a bit nasty. I was hoping that I would be recovered by now, but now I cannot see me being sufficiently fit for the day. Apologies to all, I really wish I could be out there with you. I hope that all goes well on the day.
