Round Scotland 2015

Round Scotland 2015 was successfully completed all the way round by Black Adder , Fast Forward , Kalish and Black Hawk .
MANY THANKS to everybody who supported us to make this happen !
Also many thanks to Craig & Jen to show us the beautiful area around Largs with their impressive Redbay and for the afternoon fishing !
It was a extremely nice and interesting trip with good friends !

I think it was 800nm, black hawk had updated reed valves this year and we were running about 0.7 litres per km which is about 1.5 litres per nm? Fully kitted out osprey vipermax 7.2m - evenrude e-Tec 250hp raised about an inch this year with a 4 blade ss prop! Bushrider will have the exact info

The fox air shocks were awesome, they are impossible to bottom out. They come with a pump to adjust the pressure. We tried 80, 50 and 35psi

We didn't go any lower than 35 as Bushrider was getting good travel, however I was not getting the full travel as I'm lighter...

I sat the whole way round with no issues though. We do 50/50 of the helming each so it was best to have the seats set the same.

be interesting to compare the outboard to the diesels that went in terms of fuel burn.

i guess it was circa 650 quid in fuel for the osprey based on those numbers, not too shabby i would suggest.

one day i'll do the same trip....one day.

800 mn x 1.5 l/nm = 1,200 x Fuel cost per litre = I'm not pressing the = button on the calculator!!!

+ XD100 oil + food + Accommodation + equipment + ferrys + car fuel + support vehicle + beer + canal charges

yes....that is quite...well...pricey!

but hey, it beats the ass out of flying to spain/USA ETC and spending same wedge.

no one cares if you flew to spain last year.....tell them you went round scotland/ireland/uk etc in a glorified blow up boat=conversation piece.

Yeah but it was worth it for the 240nm run from the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness in one day alone, two whale sightings that day and the best days ribbing of my life

We stayed in hotels or B&B when we could.The problem with a trip like this is forward booking,as Alex stated we had to miss out a stop to miss bad weather so bookings are lost we found that you have to be flexible (unless you have a nice warm Targa!) I spent one night under a tarp in a Bivvy bag on Fast Forward in a very wet Inverness,we couldn't find any vacancies .Then at the other extreme we stayed at the majestic Caledonian Hotel in Oban the last night we slept in Ross's very comfy roof tent at Largs

now THAT is a day out :-)

in all my years boating (20 plus) i have never seen a whale, i know people who have seen them around the west coast/clyde, so i know they are about.

there was a basking shark in troon or ayr harbour i think it was not long ago, came right upto the shore to get its dinner and people took video of it.

what a liberty, i went to the trouble of getting a boat to see them and these lucky beggars are out eating chips and one swims past the town centre.....sods law eh!

Fuel and mileage stats for Round Scotland 2015:
All miles are nautical miles from the GPS, Fuel usage is from Mercury Smartcraft.

Day 1 - Largs - local cruising 84.5 Litres, 73.4 miles = 1.15 L/nm
Day 2 - Largs to Dunstaffnage 161.3 Litres, 137.2 miles = 1.18 L/nm
Day 3 - Dunstaffnage to Kyle of Lochalsh 105.1 Litres, 87.4 miles = 1.20 L/nm
Day 4 - Lochalsh to Inverness 301 Litres, 248.5 miles = 1.21 L/nm
Day 5 - Inverness to Fort Augustas 29.1 Litres 27.8 miles = 1.05 L/nm
Day 6 - Fort Augustas to Dunstaffnage 54 Litres 51.3 miles = 1.05 L/nm
Day 7 - Dunstaffnage to Largs 79.8 Litres 72.3 miles = 1.10 L/nm

Total Miles Covered = 750.6nm, Total Fuel used = 875.2 Litres
Overall average 1.16 Litres of Diesel per nm.
