Cheers Keith. We'll get in touch next week when we have a better idea of the weather. I'll have a look at Chausey as it's not somewhere I've been to as yet,

Being a local with contacts..... do you know the current Marine Diesel prices in Alderney, Jersey and Guernsey at the moment? (It would save me a few phone calls)?

I Lied - we went there last time we did this cruise - needs careful navigation if I remember correctly!

A doddle from the South, a bit more interesting from the North. Fore and aft mooring in the channel.

I paid something like 67p/l for petrol the other day and diesel is normally a bit cheaper. I don't know the current prices in Guernsey or Alderney at the moment so probably best to phone Boatworks+ in GY and Mainbrayce in AY for latest. GY should be similar, AY will be more.

Were are you staying? Alderney has a good camp site as has St Malo on top of the hill amongst the 2WW bunkers and gun inplacements.

For many of us, camping on Alderney, and on the boats (for those who can) in St Malo.

Not seen you for a while
2 weeks ago St Peter Port £60p St Hellier £54p on outside £50p on unattended.
St Malo harbour Master advised buying diesel is "difficult" at the moment.
St Quay Portrrieux- extensive construction works

Thanks Andy
- It sounds like St Hellier unattended it is then!
I'm pretty sure all the diesel boats will only need to fill up once, so we'll fuel to a safe level to get us to the channel Islands generally, then pick the cheapest to brim the tanks rather than needing to take fuel in France.

I'll pop down to Mainbrayce tomorrow and ask (for Alderney) I've got to go down anyway to take my RIB out of its shipping container (arrives tomorrow from Poole)!

I think I'm around that one evening you're in Alderney, give me a shout I'll stand you a pint in the Divers...

Thanks.
Am I right in thinking in/on Alderney Diesel is duty free on the quayside but petrol isn't?

Oh - and you might want to re-think the Divers offer - there could be over 20 of us between the 9 boats, and some of them are probably pints of Gin.

Mainbrayce only have a diesel pump but can (I think still) arrange petrol by jerrycans if given notice. As the petrol comes from the petrol station it is taxed for road use.

Fair enough, maybe modify that to "say hello" in the divers 😂

Both Diesel and Petrol are cheaper at the Chandlers than across the road (plus it saves lugging it Argos's the road)

They do have a small amount of petrol at the quayside, and it is duty free, if they know your fuel requirements they can make sure they've got it by the quay or they'll have to handball it from the garage, which is shut sunday afternoon!

They said they could probably do petrol at £1.48, no guarantees!

Well, they've made it to Chausey on what is a rather gloomy day. AIS shows Trevor's track going via an eastern channel so they must have chickened out on the north sound entrance! The second screenshot shows the yellow track of a local boat that went via the north sound where you need to be pretty sharp with your pilotage as it's very rocky and dries at half tide.

Arriving in Jersey last night. Rafted up on the holding pontoon waiting for the marina sill to open before heading off for some beers and a meal.
