Saturday, 21st March - Solent Blast (Poole?)

Anyone out and about Saturday? Forecast looking good at the moment and thinking of a run to Poole if nice enough.

Hi Neil
Can't make Saturday but we will be out and about on Sunday - Launching from Swanwick slipway mid to late morning. We've no specific plans as yet but if anyone else is about on Sunday please do post a post (if that's the right way of saying it!).
Trevor

I'm around on Saturday, although I suspect that other obligations for Mother's Day will prevent coming out on Sunday.

Poole isn't much of a trip for me though! Anybody fancy Weymouth?

Which are you up for? Poole, Weymouth or Sunday? And launching where?

Wouldn't go anywhere near the solent this weekend, and avoid getting to close to anyone who launches there too

[COLOR="Blue"][berth. Humber Star was alongside the Southern Water jetty on the east bank of the River Itchen when she went down at around 5.30am.

Much of the 400 tonnes of sewage and 800 gallons of red diesel aboard is thought to have spilled into the river posing an environmental risk. Anti-pollution booms have been deployed to contain the spillage, but a spokesman for the MCA said it was likely to disperse quickly.

We're hoping to launch at Lymington tomorrow and head towards Poole; we probably won't be able to get on the water until 11 at the earliest, so may miss you early-birds. If you do happen to be around either in the morning or later near Poole, it would be good to meet up.

Have a good day whatever happens

Ian

If Mrs Avocet is coming with me, I can't see us being on the water much before 11.00 since she has a delivery to make first thing - although with no speed limits still in the harbour we should be able to get out quite quickly once we're off.

I suspect that Andre will be launching somewhere in the Solent and, if his post was in response to the Weymouth suggestion, I anticipate that he's unlikely to be off Poole until around 10.30.

We'll have to wait and see!

only just got home.

Still planning on being out tomorrow, but have a meeting with a guy about my stainless work at 10, so unlikely to be leaving Drivers until 11 (maybe a bit late for you Andre) but should be near Lymintone about 12 I would guess.

Will have a quick look at the board in the morning and see if anyone else out and about

Not sure how this fits in with others but the current plan is for Mrs A and I (and possibly Scurvey Crew) to RV with another boat (Gold Crest) at Parkstone YC (Poole) at 11.00 (or thereabouts!) and then aim for lunch in Yarmouth at The Wheatsheaf (under new management since 3 March apparently) for around 12.30ish via The Needles (also a popular watering hole but not under new management apparently).

Will be using 08 and monitoring 16. (If I can figure out the tri watch, I'll also be on 77!) Will put out occasional calls for Seahawk V, Sunshine II and BerryBuoys on 16 in the hope of meeting up.

It's now late....and so to bed (I need my beauty sleep). Hope to meet up with you later but have a great day anyway.

David

Hi all,

It looks like we will be launching at 11 in Lymington, and then popping down to Poole (so the opposite direction to you David ). So it's unlikely we'll be able to meet anyone for lunch but will keep an eye out and monitor 08, 16 and 77.

Have a great day everyone, hopefully get to meet you all sometime soon. Sorry if can't do it today.

Ian

Superb weather flat seas. We headed for the Needles and my better half overulled me and instead of to Poole we headed to Cowes and then to Portsmouth for lunch. Good lunch at the pizza express. From here we will head back to Southampton. Just finished off a good bottle of red and hopew my better half will take the helm on the return journey. I am hoping to retire to my cabin :-) and enjoy a soft ride back :-)

Saw Andre leaving the drystack at 10, but I could not leave until about 11:30, then saw him come back in 10 mins after me.

Fantastic day on the water today. Made it to Poole and back - it's a very nice run with no limits in the harbour. Missed everyone else though!

Passed the sunk boat on the Itchen - no noticeable effects on the water, but she was surrounded by some kind of floats - I guess to stop any more discharge spreading too far?

What a lovely day! Even got a bit of sunburn.

Sorry to have missed everyone, we had a bit of a technical hiccup caused by some idiot forgetting to isolate the battery last time we put the boat to bed

A huge thanks to Luke and his oppo at Lymington slipway for giving us a jump start; you're a saviour and allowed us to have a fantastic (half) day on the water.

Glad everyone else had a great day,
I.
