Scilly 25th June to 3rd July

I'm planning to go to Scilly on Saturday 25th June, returning Sun 3rd July, weather and sea permitting (if not, a long old haul on the puke bucket Scillonian III - hate to think what II & I were like).

I'm leaving Penzance early am in my Osprey Sparrowhawk (new Mariner 90hp 2 strk, GPS, compass, radio, cuddly toy, no dog etc...etc...) with my mate Dave from up north.

If any other RIBs want to join us you'll be more than welcome - just let me know.

This will be my first time doing this trip, but to avoid a Rob Jones type thread, I've been on the sea for many years in Ribs, sea kayaks, Cornish Gigs, surf boards etc..

I am however new to this GPS thing - up to now I have always used charts and compass - does anyone have a set of waypoints I can crib ?

regards
chris

If your chart work is OK then you're much better off working out your own waypoints. You'll need to double check them anyway if you use someone else's.

Having said that, I'm sure Brian Elliott will be able to help. All the details were on the BIBOA web site, but the file seems to have slipped into oblivion at the moment! (Anyone know who the BIBOA web site contact is?)

John

RIBase
CrackyChris

I am very happy to offer you some waypoints.

You may go via the Wolf Rock Lighthouse, which is slightly longer, but provides a) a checkpoint and b) a photo opportunity.
The other, more direct way, is via the Runnel Stone.

There are also two ways into Hugh Town on St. Mary's. I recommend the southern route in. The northern route can be "interesting" at low springs or an easterly.
Let me know which set(s) of waypoints you want.

But arrive I did

Yes I fully agree - fool hardy to set off without full co-ordinates pumped into the GPS.

I went via Runnel Stone - which makes for a nice ride as you follow the Cornish Coastline - then its 250 Degrees for 24 miles.
