Scilly Islands

With the cruise to the Scilly Islands only a few weeks away I thought I'd start a thread to find out who's going ( I know its on the BIBOA website ) and from where in case we can meet up.

I'm leaving from Poole on the Saturday morning.

Cheers

Mark

Jason do you have the lat-long of this buoy to hand please?

-edit- found it. Your idea of launching into the Helford River looks better than a jaunt from Plymouth, i think 80miles before lands end is a bit too much for us. What slip were you thinking of using? There is one at Mylor that looks good, we'll meet up if that's OK....poss even on the M4?

Daniel and Bern/Jason
If you two boats meet up at Helston, I will ask Mag. A. to meet up with you and escort you to the Lizard.
Mark, Andy M. and I will meet you there and proceed.
All we want now is Roy's and Charles' input?

I'll post timings in a week or so.

Daniel,
We will be travelling to Cornwall during the early hours of Friday 30th April and plan to arrive around 10am April 30th. We have booked a weeks accommodation on the Helford River and have arranged for a launch, mooring, trailer storage and recovery through www.helford-river-boats.co.uk
There is also parking avaliable for your car if you decide to launch here.

Brian,
Thanks for the info.

Don't think i can afford the Friday off work, Tappy and I will leave Reading early enough on Saturday to launch and rendevouz with you guys. If i did sly off on the Thursday evening i think we would launch at Plymouth and yacht it round.

We'll meet on the water then.

'course you can join us, but we are already 3-up and the hotel(s) were (a) VERY expensive and (b) well booked up some months ago. I'll discuss it with you when you CALL ABOUT YOUR GEARBOX.

But not now, i'm off to enjoy my optimax

-edit- my 1/2 of an optimax

The Slip at Mylor is excellent. Pontoon adjacent, and if you ring the Yacht Haven they can arrange for your trailer etc to be stored onsite.

I launched from there last year and meet Mike and Di in Mag A as they came out of St Mawes just along the river.

Stayed overnight at http://www.mylor-bridge.co.uk/

Routing and Timings

If Mark and John can leave Poole at 07.00, you should be able to be off Start Point (N50 10 W003 40) by 10.00.
Andy M. and I will leave Torquay at 09.00 and meet you there.
We will go on to the Eddystone (N50 10 W004 15) arriving at 11.00.
On to the Lizard (N49 55 W005 10) arriving just before 13.00hrs.

A separate group, consisting:
Mike G. in Magellan Alpha
Bern in La Bamba
Charles and friends in Scorch
Daniel and friends in Top Banana, and
Roy Smith in Keka Rocka
Will meet up after launching (at Mylor/St. Mawes and the Helford River), at The Manacles Bouy (N50 03 W005 02) at, say 12.30. From The Manacles to the RV at the Lizard is about 10 miles.

We then all go to Wolf Rock (N49 56 W005 50) and on to St. Mary’s Sound (N49 54 W006 18) and thence into Hugh Town, St. Mary’s. We should get there around 15.30 hours.

Food
Eating on the Saturday evening is going to be dificult together. I have tried all the places I know and none will accept a group booking as the World Gig Racing Championships are on. Thus if you have a dinner meal option at your hotel, you should take it. In any case we will be meeting for drinks before and after our meal, and we will just try to fit everyone in for food wherever it is possible.

Full details.............have been e-mailed to all participants, except Roy Smith for whom I do not have an e-mail address. Please contact me Roy.

To throw a slight spanner into the works, weather permitting top-banana might defect from the 1pm Lizard RV and launch Plymouth and head out to the Eddystone for an 11am RV. If this happens we will ensure everyone is well aware of the situation - otherwise assume we are following "Plan A".

Thanks for all your hard work so far Brian... i owe you a beer

Oh, and if anyone cares some strange chap going by the name of "Rouge Wave" has hitched a lift intop banana for the weekend in place of Mrs Tapp. It remains to be seen if this relationship will continue in the hotel room
