Easter Week
I get back from work on the 27th and hope to be out on the river if the weather is half decent. Hope to see a few of you out there!

Boat hitched up and ready to go.
We should be out between Holy Loch, Cumbrae and Portavadie over the weekend Weather doesn't look so bad. (Fingers crossed)
Hope everyone has a good weekend and would be nice to ' bump into' other ribnet types.

I did research this last year and then moved house at the wrong moment, so abandoned the plan. Memory says there's a couple of 4(ish) knot limits round Bowling, King Geo V dock and up past the BAE yard. There's a leaflet that you can get in marinas with all the info on, but I've never been able to find an electronic version of it.
So, anyone up for a trip (assuming it's on?)

Just recieved poster on river Fest' details at www.glasgowriverfestival.co.uk
Anyone up for it - still not found best launch site, perhaps will contact organisers for recommended?
Any more ideas? (without hoofing it from Largs or Kip that is)

Aha, they've finally updated the site...... 4 weeks before it happens!
Yep, we are. The notional plan was to launch at Helesburgh / Rhu and motor up from there. Having said that, Largs probably won't be much longer in towing time for us as long as the good old Kingston Bridge / M8 @ airport aren't doing their car park impersonations...... I did a bit of research last year, and there's nowhere (well, nothing on the net) further upriver of the slip in Greenock that has been mentioned once or twice before!

I'll likely be taking a run up on the Saturday if the weather is good.
last year we laid alongside a very kind yachty for a few hours until a pontoon space became available.

Launch site
Helensburgh sounds ok, is it free, what facilities, exactly where?
I have fuel capacity issues, 25+20 litres, and a dodgy jerry can of 25 litres - if I fancy riding a petrol bomb! (ooh! can I say that on the net?). But helensburgh-city centre sounds do-able.
Largs costs (the Marina that is). We must get a regular ribbing group going - i'm loosing the justification with er indoors of having one! if its never out.

Right here:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.sr...=newsearch.srf
Facilities are basically a slip and a car park. There's public loos by the car park, but other than that the "facilities" are the local shops. There's a petrol station about 1/4 mile east along the main road. There's a pic on Boatlaunch. In the summer there is usually an ice cream van!
I know your fuel issue - I had the same problem last year, but for less £ than it costs to fill it, a Hulk 30L tank later, problem solved!
The petrol station is about a 50 yd walk form the beach if you need to stop to fill up mid trip...... if you have portable tanks!

"Hulk Tank" wosat then, howz that work? sounds very interesting, I had wondered if post build installation to below deck was possible.
I have a mind to get a single 50 - odd litre tank (about £ 80) and put in place of the portable tanks, but then would want a side fill point/cap and need to find out about fitting, vents and that . . . . then worry about storing boat in summer high temps with fuel aboard . . . . . . am I worrying toooo much?

At rik of going slightly (!) off thread........
one of these:
http://www.marinescene.co.uk/product...-30l-fuel-tank
I have 2 under the engine by the transom, with a short hose up to the engine. When one empties, swap the hose across, open the vent, & carry on! and they are portable which means you aren't limited to marina priced petrol when afloat!
I've never had one do anything nasty in summer sun, full or empty.

Notice to Mariners from Clydeport-aparently its "invataion only". Not sure if that means that you cant go up in your own boat or just that you cant stay http://www.clydeport.co.uk/cms_uploa...r_Festival.pdf

I read that notice as meaning you can only pass through the even area under advisement, not that you can't at all.
Nothing stopping anyone having a run up, just that you will not be able to berth in the event area.

Interesting, when we brought our Hardy off the water for the last time we asked Sandpoint if they had a slip and they said they didn't so had to trundle the boat and trailer from Port Glasgow.
Unfortunately we cant go as im off doing my ski instructor award
Dont they realise summer is for melted water, winter is for frozen water activities lol

Clyde River Fest, Ribnet-wise
As the due date gets nearer - can we have a role call of who is all up for this?
Sandpoint-Dumbarton, looks to be the best (secure-est)bet, I'm going to give them a call during the week.
Anyone have have tide details that may dictate launching and return times?
Plan (Sat or Sun, I'm easy) to run up river en convoy? float about for a bit, test the water for officialdom (berthing by invite only - apparently)and depart. My own hol of last week took in the Rouen L'Armada (French Tall Ships meet) - they seemed to have no such limitation!
If all else fails - will just head up to Loch Lomond!

I doubt I'm going to be ribbing to this one after my thermostat housing gasket let go & dumped a load of warm salty water into my lower cylinder's coil on Saturday! Took the thermostat housing off & discovered the thrermaostat was stuck half open! Probably explains a lot of the strange effects I was experiencing........ oh the fun of a classic engine..... Replacement parts on order, expected delivery Friday
I phoned the number to enquire, and was told that day visitors should be OK as long as you don't mind mooring alongside something else, and promised not to spend the night! Apparently event control is on CH10, and to call them on approach. He asked for some vessel detials so they had a better idea where to tell me to tie alongside.
I'll keep an eye on the post, and if the bits arrive in time, maybe see you on the water.

Well, thats that then!
Called Sandpoint today - no public use of slip, at all, even for a fee! Berthholders only. Sumink about trailers left on slip damaging their plant - perhaps some wing mirrors then?
Looks like boringfreshwaterfreelaunching Loch Lomond for me then - Glasgows Smiles Better? Aye, if you like to travel over 40 miles by RIB there and back to be there - i'm not bitter.
