You'd both be welcome. I assume your son I'd not of a delicate disposition and likely to be offended by middle aged men drinking beer and talking drivel all night?

Was only asking as Fribs& sibs have a max number but don't tell you that until it's been reached.

Abram, I've not done a head count, and am working remotely on phone at the moment, the clyde is big enough for lots of sibs though...

Hi, as I will be coming with the Mrs. She has requested that I ask if anyone could give us information on the bed and breakfast option for the trip? Also advice on where to safely leave the boat etc would be greatly appreciated, Chris

Crissybabe, welcome aboard! How big is your boat etc? The slight problem with planning b&b's is the exact destination is of course weather dependant - That might result in last minute cancellations. However, my preferred option assuming the weather plays ball would put us just around the corner from Portavadie marina; I think they probably have b&B and certainly shelter for your boat. Tighnabruaich would be the obvious other place (loads of B+B / small hotels) some with visitor moorings.

Thanks very much for that, I have previously been in touch, my boat is 4.3m 25hp on the back, and there will be two of us. Really looking forward to it.

Ah yes, sorry working on my phone. Your boat is a similar size to mine and Gurnards then. We just anchored them off the "beach" last year, whilst the smaller boats pulled them ashore and I expect we will do the same this time; but there are alternatives as I mentioned.

I'll get onto thinking about the details a bit more after ERR (this weekend).

OK, ERR is complete so time to start thinking about this.

If I've headcounted right we have:

14 boats?
17 people
12 tents?
4 of 5 of those are maybes...

We may get a few more as the time gets closer, and anyone who has organised anything like this knows there will be last minute call offs.

Plans will firm up closer to the time, and I've messaged everyone who has shown interest...

I've been asked to provide a list of suggested 'kit' for people to carry. My simple answer to this would be "the same as any other trip" and point people towards this thread: http://www.rib.net/forum/f50/what-ki...sib-42712.html

However, I realise that is perhaps not very helpful for someone who is trying to decide if they need to go and buy something for the trip, so let me suggest (and others can give differing opinions):

If you are camping then tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, stove of some sort, food, and anything else you normally need. The one thing you might not think of is FRESH WATER. Based on last year's experience it would also be useful if each boat could bring a log or two for the collective fire, if you've got space.

As for the boat itself, I've listed these thinks with my suggestion of how essential or important they are.

each person will probably have:
Buoyancy aid or Lifejacket with whistle
Waterproofs, wetsuit, flotation suit or dry suit according to personal preference
Hat (with a peak in case of sun!)
Sunglasses?
[if you have them phone in water proof bag, waterproof torch, "rescue" type knife, h/held vhf]

essential?
* Anchor, chain and rope.
* Something to bail with
* Torch
* Compass
* [personally I'd say a chart, others think for sibbing an OS map is OK, and I dare say if you have a GPS plotter and a phone as a backup then paper may not be essential at all - especially with so many others around]
* Socket for your sparkplugs (and any other special tools)
* A small tool kit or multitool.
* Knife.
* Spare kill cord IF you have more than one person on board.
* Fuel, with enough to spare. Oil if you are 2 stroke.
* A rope, suitable for towing your boat (consider a "bridle" to spread the load).
* Paddle or oars.
* Emergency food.
* Dry bag with spare clothes.
* Small first aid kit - personally the trivial things like plasters and paracetemol are likely to be more useful than triangular bandages and splints - if there are major injuries the professionals will be coming and you can usually improvise.
* Pump and patch kit for those of you with blow up boats ;-)
* Spare batteries for anything electrical.
* A couple of short ropes.

not essential - but if you don't have this, work out an alternative plan
* GPS
* H/Held VHF [last year I don't think we used VHF between ourselves at all; obviously if someone drops out of sight or the group splits to go different ways things might be different].
* A few spares like cable ties, duck tape, spark plugs, wire, fuse?
* Spare starter cord.
* Phone in dry bag.

if you have them but I probably wouldn't buy them specially, given there are multiple boats around:
* sponge to keep the boat dry!
* Flares [putting this so low down will no doubt be controversial, but if you have plenty of means of signalling distress, and are cruising near others the value might be limited]
* PLB
* Pocket EAR mask
* Spare Fuel primer bulb
* Binoculars
* survival bag
* Glow stick
* Multimeter (if you have anything that it might be useful for)
* Camera (waterproof or in dry bag)
* aux engine if you wish
* fire extinguisher?

Poly,

What is an ear mask?
Or is this an E.A.R. mask? (and what's that?)

Its a cut n paste from the other thread I linked to. It stands for Expired Air Resuscitation. In the old days we used to call them pocket masks.

Yup.. as I imagined.. its to protect our anonymity..as ..in essence .. we are all strangers from a public forum. Some may not be as they say they are so we decided only to answer to Avatar names and use masks to hide our true ID

It was a bit uncomfortable wearing the stone masks last year.. and the bungee cords that held them in place .. really did our heads in ..so we ended up holding them. Those face masks look far more comfortable?

Willks rabbit ears looks a bit ridiculous though ?

Dont forget the spade to either bury your breakfast log..or catapult it far out to sea.

And, er, what (on earth!) are they used for?

Oh, oh, I get it now. They are not used for s*x**l purposes then.
They are for blowing into someones mouth. Yeerch!
