Sheffield Ribber
Hi all. I've been watching the forum for a while. Got a problem as I live in Sheffield which has no rib land about. Is the anyone out there who also lives way inland who has a rib. Before I spend the dosh, do you get the use. If so where do you head. Is it for the day or do you have to make a weekend of it.

I think you are probably asking the wrong question. There really isn't anywhere to use a rib properly inland except the lake district (even then very restricted) or large Scottish lochs. You are a good two+ hrs from the sea but plenty of people tow further to use on west of Scotland or south coast regularly. The limiting favour is rarely towing distance but is the rest of life or the weather depending on size of boat. Family commitments and unenthusiastic partners are the killer issues, and for those of us who are not fortunate enough to not need to work, jobs and the fact they often force leisure into weekends only exacerbate and this.

We live in Bingley (near Bradford). Generally boat in North Wales. 3 1/2 hours towing g at 6am but generally we'll make a weekend of it. It's not a cheap passtime but the joy it gives me makes it absolutely worth it. Even when the weather is shit I just love being on the water.

Really? https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourc...eld+to+grimsby
I know someone from Barnsley who used to own a small fishing boat in Whitby - which would be 2.5hrs away roughly and they used to go up virtually every weekend...

There are plenty of Yorkshire and Lancs Guys on the forum....some of our most busy....not to mention Vocal members in fact
So it really isn't too much of a Handicap....if you have the Will.

Hi, I live in Sheffield as do a few more on this forum. I cant speak for the rest but my brother and I usualy head for Bridlington South beach whenever we get the urge, about an hour and half towing the rib, we take the kid's grand kid's etc. and make a day of it, as said before it's not cheap but very enjoyable..

Sheffield Ribber
I'm in Barnsley, plenty of Yorkshire ribbers about these parts. As Poly said, it all depends on how much effort/time & money you're prepared to chuck at it. Buying the boat is the easy bit. I've had ribs for going on 30 yrs, God know how much money I've blown, but who's counting, the rewards are worth it. No such thing as a bad day on the water, it's just that some are better than others😎
Don't view living in the centre of the universe country as a downside, we might be 2 hours from the coast, but we are 2 hours nearer everywhere else. We boat all over the country & abroad. If we lived on the coast, we'd never explore further afield, ask the Solent boys😜
.....sh1t happens.......

Second that we're in Oldham pretty much the middle of the country and landlocked, but everything is more or less reachable in a days towing. That can make a huge difference and you can chase the weather

I'm further west than Sheffield! I am from the west originally it was only the cunning whiles of a woman that tricked me towards the centre ;-)
We don't mind if they go West of Sheffield do we? obviously there be dragons there, but if he keeps out the pubs he will probably avoid HP TonyT and Kerny!

Being out of Poole, I'm probably a 'Solent boy' and don't (now) tow ....
Nonetheless, done (without towing) as extremities: Le Havre, Paris, St Vaast, Cherbourg, all Channel Islands (and Brehat) and Scillies (with various points in between)!
That's mainly West, so probably need to get out East more! Brighton here I come!
